    So let's recap:

Pakistan are still a long way behind where England were at this stage but the key thing is they haven't lost a wicket yet.

They're averaging around three runs an over, a stark contrast to England.

Shafique and Ul-Haq have managed to reach their half-centuries.

Pope also dropped a catch earlier which is now looking to be quite costly.

It feels like something is bubbling though. I'm predicting an Anderson breakthrough...

England have managed to stop the boundary ball they were conceding. Will Jacks bowled too full.

We knew it was a flat wicket and it was going to be hard to get wickets. Pakistan only got two wickets in their innings with England giving eight away with attacking shots.

Pakistan are still a long, long way behind but they are making England work for this.

Stokes is moving people around the field. There's nobody left on the boundary.

Can Pakistan hold on until tea time?

Shafique manages to get two precious runs in the over. It was flicked off the toes and out behind mid-on where there was an empty space.

  5. Pak 106-0published at 31 overs

Let's see what Anderson can do.

Stokes has changed the field so there's a fine leg, square leg, short mid-wicket and a short mid-on.

Anderson attempts some reverse swing but Ul-Haq defends low from round the wicket and it's hit down to deep third and he gets two runs.

    Anderson is in reverse-swing mode.

  7. 50 for Ul-Haqpublished at 30 overs

    Shafique 50, Ul-Haq 49

Just a few moments after Shafique reaches his 50, so does Ul-Haq.

And immediately after Root bowls a bouncer, but no there's runs off it.

It's a round-arm to finish the over which is faster and it's hit square for one run.

Pakistan's partnership continues and they still haven't lost a wicket.

    England call for Jimmy Anderson!

Greg Double: I love that even having posted a score of 657, England still managed a collapse of sorts.

Root bowls to Ul-Haq and there's some clever footwork from him and it's hit through the covers.

The next ball is hit for a single but that's all Pakistan need to bring up their hundred.

That stumping incident shows the importance of having a specialist wicketkeeper in Test match cricket. You can get away with a batting all-rounder in one-day and especially T20 cricket.

Ollie Pope is a keeper but he does not do it as often. Ben Foakes will train day in, day out, taking thousands of catches. Pope will practice of course but his focus is more on his batting.

Shafique hits Jacks' wide line through the covers all the way to boundary.

Jacks bowls a wide that Shafique leaves alone before the next ball is hit for four again.

It's pitched outside off but Shafique drives it through the covers and brings up his half-century.

That's woken up the crowd and the Pakistan flags are flying.

Joe Root races through a maiden.

Pakistan are still long way behind but they are yet to lose a wicket. The partnership between Ul-Haq and Shafique is still going strong.

Plenty more dot balls but Shafique manages to nudge a wide delivery all the way to the boundary. Pakistan needed those four runs.

    Thanks Tom!

Pakistan are coming along nicely. Slow and steady wins the race?

Mid-offs now come up and Stokes is crowding the wicket. This is Leach's fourth maiden over. That's more than Pakistan managed in their entire bowling effort.

Six dot balls in this over. England are putting the pressure on.

Bang. A hop and a skip from Imam Ul-Haq and he smashes Will Jacks back over his head for four. Great shot.

There's plenty of encouragement for Jacks from the fielders around the bat, though. England doing their best to keep things lively despite the tough bowling conditions.

Time for me to take a break. Here is Aymen Babar to guide you through the rest of this session.

  20. Pak 78-0published at 23 overs

That's a lovely shot from Abdullah Shafique as he expertly picks out the gap in the field with a paddle shot that flies away fine for four.

There is little turn from the surface so it was a pretty risk-free stroke from the Pakistan opener.
