This is comfortably the shortest any team has bowled in a Test on record. The data goes back about 15 years. They are presenting batters with something they have never faced before.

Ollie Robinson's bowling in this innings: 0% full, 9% good length and 91% short. 4 overs, 1 maidens, went for 11 runs, took 1 wickets with an economy of 2.75.

Many teams would have batted for a draw, but England are happy to lose in order to win. There are many opinions on the threads from people who have never captained a Test match. I would suggest that we watch, learn and enjoy.

This type of short bowling is not Ollie Robinson's natural game but he bounds in relentlessly anyway.

The England players are buzzing around the field as well. They are doing everything they can to crank up the pressure on Pakistan.

Neville - Ely: When England win this match tomorrow, Dan (10:30) is not allowed to celebrate,

Joe Lagrue: Dan at 10:30 should not be criticised for his negativity. In fact he has demonstrated the true power of the mockers. So I say, thank you, Dan. Those wickets are yours!

  7. Pak 25-2published at 6 overs

This is brilliant cricket from England. They have manufactured a potentially thrilling finish from an absolute road of a pitch.

Saud Shakeel is the new batter.

It is tempting to say that is the game. It is not. But it is a huge boost for England.

And Ben Stokes has done it! Again!

It is a bouncer from Stokes and Babar Azam gets in a bit of a mix-up and all he does is feather it through to Ollie Pope.

It was the faintest of edges - Stokes barely appealed - but Pope was convinced and so was the umpire.

Babar knew he hit it too as he walked straight off.

    A huge moment for England.

Stokes v Babar. Captain v captain.

I like that we haven't batted for the draw as we would have in the past. But surely the point of a declaration is that you leave a score that is gettable but only if the team attack a bit more than usual. That then creates chances for wickets. We've just left Pakistan a total that means they can bat normally on a flat pitch and they'll win.

That was just a little too wide from Ollie Robinson.

    Target 343

That's livened the crowd up even more. Babar Azam cuts away his first ball from Ollie Robinson through the covers for four.

Robinson responds with a bouncer before sharing a polite word with Babar at the end of the over.

    Feisty.

Azhar has hurt his index figure. It is a huge blow but he can come back in.

  16. Postpublished at 10:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

It looks like Azhar Ali is coming off here - he is signalling that he cannot hold his bat properly.

Azhar retires hurt, which means a certain Babar Azam comes out to the middle, much to the delight of the crowd.

Shafique is one of those batters who beds in for the long haul. It is a big bonus getting him early.

  18. Pak 20-1published at 4.3 overs

Azhar Ali joins Imam Ul-Haq in the middle. Will Pakistan now retreat into their shell a little? They won't want to lose too many wickets this evening.

Azhar gets hit on the glove second ball and there is a break in play for the physio to come on and have a look. Magic freezing spray at the ready.

A bonus for England. They have gone for the short-ball tactic, dangled the tactic and the ploy has worked. That is the nature of cricket these days. You want to be able to play your shots.
