The trap worked! Abdullah Shafique cannot believe it. Hook, line and sinker.

Ollie Robinson bowls short again to lure Shafique into the pull and he perfectly picks out Harry Brook on the deep square leg boundary.

    England are jubilant.

  2. Pak 20-0published at 4 overs

Ben Stokes really bends his back as he bangs one into Imam Ul-Haq, who misses his attempted pull.

Stokes stares ruefully back to the Pakistan opener.

It is going to take a loose shot like that to get wickets on this track.

Dan: England are going to lose this Test and it will be entirely their own fault.

Fast bowler Mark Wood had a bowl during the tea interval. He should be fit for the second Test, which begins on 9 December in Multan.

    Stuart knows.

Ollie Robinson has just bowled a ginormous no ball there, a good 2-3 inches over the line.

The shadows are already beginning to lengthen across the ground. I'd say we have around an hour's play left today.

England have declared with the amount of time they feel is enough to win this game and are willing to lose in the process.

I'm with you, Dave. Tomorrow's final day is going to be much more exciting than it would have been had they batted Pakistan out of contention. Surely that is better for the game?

England's approach now is 'How do we win this game' rather than 'How do we avoid losing'. It's fantastic and I salute them.

England are going for the short-ball tactic but we have a very flat wicket.

  12. Pak 13-0published at 1.2 overs

Ben Stokes also goes with the short ball tactic but on this pitch it sits up nicely for Imam Ul-Haq, who smashes the England skipper away for back-to-back boundaries.

Ben Stokes is taking the new ball at the other end.

    Interesting.

S: I guarantee you that all the people whinging about the declaration being too early, are the same people who whinged about Cook and Root declaring too late.

This is bizarre. It's not Robinson's style but England have a field Jeff Thomson would have had.

    Target 343

No slips, a short leg and two out on the leg-side boundary for Ollie Robinson. A not-so-subtle hint to Abdullah Shafique to expect some short stuff first up.

Robinson obliges but Shafique is able to fend him off before successfully pulling the last ball of the over away for four.

Fair play to England, win or lose, they’re doing their best to entertain.

Well that is a bold declaration - and I like it.

The carrot has been dangled in front of Pakistan.

343 is the target - will they go for it?

  20. England have declaredpublished at 10:10 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

England lead by 342 which seems like a good enough total to keep Pakistan interested.

With light issues etc there are probably around 100 overs left in the Test and England will need to get 10 wickets inside of that.
