Rev Aidan Watson: Safe to say I had never heard of Gilbert Jessop 9 months ago. Now I feel he is up there with the 2005 Ashes, Nasser's toss, Botham in 81, Stokes at Headingly and Broad's 8-15 for mentions by pundits/commentators. #jessopwatch

There will be a lot of mentions of this man, Gilbert Jessop, over the next 40 minutes.

Despite a number of attempts to knock him off his perch over recent months, including one by Ben Duckett earlier today, Jessop still holds the record for fastest century for England in Tests.

The record is 76 balls. Harry Brook is 79 not out from 64.

Play will resume at the end of the dinner interval - yes, dinner not tea because this is the longer, 40-minute break in a day-night match - at 06:00 GMT.

The final session can go until 08:30 GMT under the floodlights and after sunset.

    Thanks Sam.

We're into the time where we have a mix of night shift workers, baby feeders and early risers now.

Some are waking up with the innocence of not knowing what has gone on.

After another lively session of Bazball, it's time for us to make a change. I'm very much in need of coffee.

Matthew Henry is back to take you through the final session and the latest edition of #JessopWatch.

That rain might pass us, you know. View of the hills at the far end now much clearer. The darkness coming from night falling, rather than ominous clouds.

The dark clouds have been threatening the Bay Oval throughout the last session and we've got a weather update for you from our man at the ground...

New Zealand had a good hour after the first break and Harry Brook came in in a tricky period. They fed his cut shot and let him off the hook.

Harry Brook has such a simple technique. He stays so still at the point of delivery. Not much can go wrong. He is in good form and is cashing in.

At 209-5, England's position looked a little uncertain. Harry Brook, though, was certainty personified.

He raced to another half-century and just kept going, hitting Tim Southee for his ridiculously good straight six...

Matthew Brown: Still not used to 250-5 being somewhat of a England batting collapse on the 1st day. Even if we lose a few wickets cheaply, you still back 2/3 to get a good score.

    Brook 79, Foakes 27

That's the end of the session, it's time for dinner and having seemingly let New Zealand back in, England go in well placed thanks to a superb 70-run stand.

Harry Brook has been magnificent again and Ben Foakes has been very good alongside him.

The only worry is that by playing for the break and then having to get himself set again afterwards, Brook might let Gilbert Jessop off the hook again...

  13. Eng 277-5published at 47 overs

I can only assume Ben Foakes miscounted the deliveries because he allows the sixth ball of Tim Southee's over to go through to Tom Blundell behind the stumps.

A maiden! The first of the day. What a shame.

  14. Eng 277-5published at 46 overs

New Zealand turn to spin and Michael Bracewell does a decent job in the circumstances.

The off-spinner's over costs just seven, with Foakes whipping the first ball for four.

Just seven. Test cricket is a very different game these days!

  15. Eng 270-5published at 45 overs

    Brook 77, Foakes 20

Harry Brook has got us back on #JessopWatch but this partnership, which is now up to 61 from just 7.1 overs, is not all about him.

Foakes has played his part and adds another boundary, chopped just wide of gully. The run-rate for the innings is back over six an over.

KevScales: Harry Brook has a proper X Factor about him

  17. 6 runs

    Eng 264-5published at 44.2 overs

Goodness me! Harry Brook is a special, special player!

He starts the over by charging Southee and nailing the ball back past mid-off for four.

Not content with that, he stands and delivers a perfect straight drive back over the bowler's head for six. Glorious!

  18. Eng 254-5published at 44 overs

New Zealand continue to offer width to Harry Brook and he continues to flay it the the fence.

Ben Foakes add a boundary of his own to end the over, pulling Kuggeleijn confidently over mid-wicket. England are motoring again.

    Gilbert Jessop getting nervous again!

From Mitch (Englishman living in Brisbane)

  20. Eng 244-5published at 43 overs

    Brook 61, Foakes 10

Brook has feasted on width in this innings and does so again, slashing Southee away behind square for four.

The New Zealand skipper responds well, though, and finds the inside edge with a nip-backer. The ball still finds its way to the rope but well bowled by Southee.
