RE: 1.12am... People who think Joe Root should be dropped? I don't think anything in sport has made me feel so outraged!! The only acceptable people to want Root dropped is the opposition team... Otherwise, can these people please be banned from entering the public domain, they are clearly dangerous!!

The entrance of Ben Foakes may well quieten things down in the final 10 minutes of the session.

  3. Eng 225-5published at 37 overs

    Root 50, Foakes 0

We'll try to find out what is going on with Stokes. He was sat on the balcony earlier.

Ben Foakes has walked out next, not Ben Stokes.

    What's going on here?

    Brook c Mitchell b Tickner 54 (Eng 225-5)

New Zealand really needed this. Harry Brook is taken at slip off Blair Tickner as he just tried to guide the ball away.

Brook was finding the boundary at will.

    England lead by 244 runs.

Neil Wagner's 11 overs for 104 is currently the most expensive spell in Test history for a player bowling at least 10 overs.

And now Harry Brook immediately follows Root to fifty.

Brook has got there in 37 deliveries.

Spinner Michael Bracewell is in the attack now and Joe Root gets out the reverse sweep. It ensures he wins the race to fifty between him and fellow Yorkshireman Harry Brook.

It has only taken 52 balls but it doesn't feel like he's really had his foot on the accelerator.

Just left a rave to go home and watch the cricket. Was hard to explain to fellow ravers...

  14. Not outpublished at 02:30 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

It would have gone high and wide. The decision remains as not out.

Black Caps captain Tim Southee, meanwhile, looks to have used that stoppage as a chance to speak to his troops, however.

They break from a huddle after the replay is shown.

This is a bit high too actually.

  16. New Zealand reviewpublished at 02:28 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

New Zealand had to go for this.

It's an lbw shout against Joe Root.

It looked to be sneaking down but they need to halt England's momentum.

  17. Eng 212-4published at 34 overs

The six brought up Neil Wagner's century after just 11 overs while Harry Brook is now just a run behind Joe Root.

Someone better go and wake poor Gilbert up again.

Harry Brook has gone 4, 4, 4, 6 in his latest over...

In town there is a coffee shop that gives away a free drink each day if you have a particular name. Today's name was 'Mino'. Now, I have no idea if Mino is a popular name in these parts, and apologies if it’s your name, but it seems a safe one to not have to give a way a lot of coffee. I bet there aren’t many Tom, Emma, Oliver or Charlotte days.

My body clock is so out of place that it has totally passed me by that at least one person must be reading this on a Friday night out. Hello if that's you.

No matter what sort of cricket you're playing you cannot bowl short and wide to Joe Root.

He helps himself before adding another four later in the over far more edgily.
