  1. SA 24-0published at 5 overs

    Target 347

Comparisons between the two innings are going to be pretty pointless today. South Africa already have more than England managed in the first 10 overs.

Chris Woakes brings to calm to proceedings with a maiden to Reeza Hendricks.

  2. SA 24-0published at 4.2 overs

New Zealand are 7-4 chasing 235 in a T20 against India by the way.

    A good game to win.

More runs to Temba Bavuma. Twice he hits Reece Topley through the off side. I bet he wishes he could bottle up whatever has given him this supreme form and take it with him wherever he goes.

Graymanuk: England strong with the bat but I'm not sure the bowling attack is in the same league. Would love to see better results from Woakes, Topley and even Moeen has something to prove. SA all out for 250?

  5. 6 runs

    SA 15-0published at 3 overs

    Bavuma 14, Hendricks 0

Shot! Temba Bavuma cracks Chris Woakes off a length over the leg side. That has gone all the way!

Some locals appear from below their brightly coloured umbrellas to find the ball.

Bavuma adds four more off Woakes' final ball too.

There's no Quinton de Kock for South Africa today after his injury while keeping in the second ODI. That means the elegant right-hander Reeza Hendricks is opening with his skipper Bavuma.

I say Hendricks is elegant but he played one of the scratchiest T20 innings I've seen in the SA20 last month.

Topley denies him his first run.

Reece Topley is going to share the new ball.

Temba Bavuma doesn't look to have lost any of his form on the one hour 45-minute drive from Bloemfontein to Kimberley. He gets this chase off and running with a lovely shot through the covers.

It would have been four but for some excellent work from Jofra Archer, who races to flick the ball back just inside the boundary rope.

    But back to Kimberley.

Chris Woakes has the new white ball in hand.

  10. Gill century blasts India up to 234published at 15:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2023

If you think Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler are in good nick - I raise you Shubman Gill. That man is on fire.

The 23-year-old has just hit an unbeaten 126 from 63 balls, featuring 12 fours and seven sixes, to help India reach 234-4 in the third T20 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

Gill has now hit three centuries and a double century in his last seven matches. He is the seventh Indian to hit a T20 century and just the fifth to reach three figures in all formats.

The three-match series is level at 1-1 after India won the earlier ODI series 3-1.

    Follow the chase.

A bit of news away from the international game...

Australia great Mike Hussey has been named head coach of Welsh Fire men in The Hundred.

He replaces Gary Kirsten, who left after the Fire's winless campaign last year.

I guess you could flip that by saying would you want Buttler in when the ball was doing a bit, like when Harry Brook and Ben Duckett were in?

Ovalultras: This innings will hopefully lead to Buttler batting 4 in ODIs from now on. I can’t really see why the logic behind him opening in T20s and thus facing more balls doesn’t also apply to him batting 4 rather than 5/6 in ODIs?

  15. Postpublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2023

More from Dawid Malan: "I thought South Africa bowled well upfront, tough lengths, the pitch was extremely slow and I definitely felt it got a bit better. But because the ground is so small when we played more positively we got a few sixes and got a bit of momentum.

"We were a bit disappointed about how we defended the last score (342-7 in Sunday's second ODI) so hopefully we can learn from our mistakes and put a better performance in with the ball."

  16. 'When Jos gets going it is impossible to stop him'published at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2023

England batter Dawid Malan: "I couldn't get the ball of the square for the first 20-30 overs. But I thought we did very well. At the second drinks break we were looking at 260-280, but to get a lot more than that we are very happy, especially after that start.

"We spoke about taking it to the 35th over but I was so behind the game I chanced my arm before that and when Jos gets going it is impossible to stop him so we dovetailed very well."

Obviously England have done very, very well to get to 346.

The pitch looked very difficult to bat on in the first 10 overs when Lungi Ngidi found uneven bounce.

Will England's seamers extract the same or has the pitch just flattened out now.

This could be a good game.

    346-7 after 50 overs.

    What a turnaround.

  19. Interval - Eng 346-7published at 50 overs

If South Africa lose this by one run...

Adil Rashid, with little to lose, turns for what looks a suicidal second run. Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen takes the ball and casually tries to throw it at the stumps from two yards away.

He misses and Rashid gets back. England have a big score.

  20. Eng 344-7published at 49.5 overs

It's a good over from the seamer, however.

What can Adil Rashid do off the final ball?
