  1. 'It's important we keep challenging ourselves'published at 10:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2023

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma: "We'll have a bowl. I think the ground is hard to defend and the wicket gets deader under the lights. We would like to restrict England and then chase whatever target they put on.

"Individually it's important we keep challenging ourselves. It's a different language among the changing rooms about how we would like to change our cricket. Today is another opportunity for that and hopefully we can go out and do it.

"We've got three chances. Quinton de Kock is out and Reeza Hendricks comes in. Keshav Maharaj is out, Shamsi is in. And Anrich Nortje is also out, with Sisanda Magala returning."

  2. 'I have immense trust in the players'published at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2023

England captain Jos Buttler: "We would have chased as well. I haven't had much luck with the tosses. We are disappointed to be out the series but looking forward to getting out there today.

"I haven't said a lot. it is about continuing with the same messages. I have immense trust in the players and the way we want to play cricket. If there are things you need to address then absolutely do that, but a lot of the time it is about staying with the same messages and belief. We know we are a good team and we're building towards the World Cup.

"It is great to have certain guys like [Harry] Brook, [Ben] Duckett getting exposure and Jofra Archer coming back and Olly Stone getting opportunities."
