England all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

It's been a strange start from Australia. They got off to a good start and then South Africa took a wicket. You feel like it's in the balance but South Africa need to be able to pile on the pressure. You feel South Africa's only way of winning this game is by taking wickets.

  2. Aus 33-2published at 6.0 overs

Key wicket from Nonkululeko Mlaba, but her over finishes with Ashleigh Gardner spinning on her heels to wallop her through square leg for four.

The ball gripped in the surface and it's a good delivery from Nonkululeko Mlaba. Clever field setting from South Africa too as they left fine leg open.

    Lanning b Mlaba 1 (Aus 29-2)

    Nonkululeko Mlaba strikes!

It's batter error more than anything as Meg Lanning attempts a little lap sweep but plays down the wrong line.

The ball grips and turns enough to bowl the Aussie skipper behind her legs. That's got the crowd on to their feet.

  5. Aus 29-1published at 5.0 overs

Sune Luus turns back to the awkward left-arm spin of Nonkululeko Mlaba with Australia's key pair at the crease.

She's very close to it, but she's not made contact. They must have heard something. Very good decision by Jackie Williams - she's managed to not here something that everyone else heard, if you see what I mean.

  7. Not outpublished at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

The technology shows no bat is involved. That looked like a review more in hope than expectation, given the value of Meg Lanning's wicket.

  8. South Africa reviewpublished at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2023

There's a little noise as Meg Lanning misses a drive to Marizanne Kapp. Given not out, but South Africa review.

She got a good piece of of that, has Perry. Looking to slash the ball through the covers, and then just at the last minute a thick outside edge and good take from Tryon as the ball's going to her right-hand side, catching the ball in just the one hand.

    Smart captaincy from Sune Luus.

The South Africa skipper gambles on a slip to Marizanne Kapp, and Ellyse Perry cannot resist a wide one.

Perry feathers it behind and Chloe Tryon takes a fine catch.

It was over-pitched by Ismail. A four in the first ball of the cover, a four in the last ball of the over. Unfortunately an expensive over, Mooney is struggling to get the ball away, but that was in the slot.

The worm shows Australia are four runs ahead of South Africa. Australia are 26 for 0 after 4 overs. At the same stage South Africa were 22 for 0.Image source, BBC Sport

Ellyse Perry decides to go aerial to the first ball of Shabnam Ismail's second over. Perry chips Ismail back over mid-off's head and the ball has just enough on it go for four.

Perry and Beth Mooney happy to rotate the strike, and knock the ball into the gaps, for the next four balls.

Mooney than goes a little more agricultural to cart the ball wide of long-on for a one-bounce for.

  13. Aus 14-0published at 3.0 overs

The experienced Marizanne Kapp has the ball in hand but her second delivery is crisply cut for four by Ellyse Perry, who uses her feet then readjusts.

Apart from that opening over from Nonkululeko Mlaba Australia's opening pair look a picture of confidence thus far.

Australia have been winning games well, but they haven't been worrying too much about net run-rate. They're happy to take their time.

  15. Aus 8-0published at 2.0 overs

Shabnam Ismail hits some good lengths, but her fifth delivery is a touch full and Beth Mooney is on it as quick as flash. She drives clinically through the covers for four.

Glorious technique from the Aussie opener.

A ball later and Mooney spoons the ball high behind South Africa wicketekeeper Sinalo Jafta, who sets off in pursuit, but it lands safe.

  18. Aus 1-0published at 1.0 overs

A great start from Nonkululeko Mlaba as Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney begin in a watchful manner. Just one run from he first over. Shabnam Ismail will bowl from the other end.

  19. Aus 0-0published at 0.2 overs

The bleach-blonde Nonkululeko Mlaba opens the bowling for South Africa with her left-arm spin.

She turns a big one into the pads of Beth Mooney, who played all round that.

Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry to open for Australia, so Meg Lanning stays at three.

    Captain's prerogative.
