    Hants 55-1 v Warwicks

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

It's been hard going for Hants as one expected.

This game was billed beforehand as the battle between two of the three best seam bowling attacks in the Country.

The ball has moved around and poor Felix Organ, who is struggling for runs this season, got an absolute beauty from Chris Rushworth that nipped back and uprooted his off stump without playing a shot.

It was the first ball he’d faced from the ex-Durham player after facing a searching few overs from Chris Woakes

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 34-2

Jonny Bairstow may just have put to bed any lingering fears about his fitness after so long out with a broken leg, springing away to his left to prevent a leg-side delivery from Mickey Edwards going for four byes.

He's taken one catch so far today and has also had a spell standing up to the stumps towards the end of Ben Coad's opening spell.

    Essex 62-1 v Surrey

Gus Atkinson enters the attack for Surrey and his second delivery is caught at third slip as Essex's opening partnership comes to an end. A bit of extra lift did for Nick Browne there.

Alastair Cook is still there on 33 - having been dropped on 13 - and has been joined by captain Tom Westley.

    Worcs 56-5 v Sussex

Ollie Robinson has come out of the attack after taking 4-30 from seven overs which is good news for Worcestershire, you would think.

Henry Crocombe takes over and starts with a maiden over to Adam Hose, who remains nine not out.

    Ughh...

Hopefully one of these short and sharp showers which had been predicted. The weather radar doesn't look too bad. Given this is the best day of the week, according to the meteorologists, though, this isn't a great development...

Ricardo Vasconcelos has 24 with Hassan Azad onto 17 after his first-over drop off Craig Overton.

  7. Postpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    Essex 57-0 v Surrey

Essex's openers post a 50 partnership as Alastair Cook finds the boundary off Jordan Clark. It's the fourth of his innings and three runs later in the over takes him to 31 not out.

He doesn't look quite so comfortable at the start of the next over as Sean Abbott sends one down which keeps really low. Variable bounce is never what a batter wants to see.

  8. wicket

    WICKET - Balderson c Hutton b Fletcher 24published at 12:00 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    Notts v Lancs 80-2

George Balderson was just starting to get going but now he's gone.

The left-hander edges to first slip off Luke Fletcher and Brett Hutton takes a safe catch.

    Hampshire 44-1 v Warwickshire

Fletcha Middleton has not scored particularly quickly but he's produced a couple of gorgeous shots in this opening hour.

He's just cracked Oliver Hannon-Dalby through mid-wicket and then carved him through the vacant gully area a couple of minutes later to move to 25 - 20 of them coming via boundaries.

    Derbys v Leics 45-2

Henry Brookes marks his Derbyshire debut after arriving on loan from Warwickshire with two wickets in the space of three balls.

Sol Budinger slashes inelegantly at a wide one and eges a catch to second slip, departing for 31.

Lewis Hill follows for a duck as he plays all around a straight, full-length delivery - an easy decision for the umpire.

  11. Postpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 29-2

Marnus Labuschagne and Sam Northeast have steadied the ship somewhat after Glamorgan lost both openers for ducks early on.

Australia batter Labuschagne is 10 not out off 43 balls and leaving the ball extremely well.

  12. Postpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    Notts v Lancs 71-1

Josh Bohannon is up to 35 now, thanks to a flamboyant pull for four off Luke Fletcher.

Left leg in the air, holding the pose - that shot wouldn't have looked out of place in Trinidad, let alone Trent Bridge.

Lancashire scoring at close to a run a ball, as Bohannon and George Balderson bring up their 50 partnership.

  13. wicket

    WICKET - D'Oliveira c Clark b Hudson-Prentice 1published at 11:53 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    Worcs 44-5 v Sussex

Brett D'Oliveira had to retire hurt in Worcestershire's game against Gloucestershire after being hit by a rapid Marchant de Lange delivery.

His brief innings in this match is painful for different reasons as Fynn Hudson-Prentice finds a bit of extra lift and Tom Clark moves smartly to his right at third slip to take his second catch of the morning.

Maybe it is possible that we will see Sussex's Steve Smith batting at some point today.

    Worcs 43-4 v Sussex

No argument about that one. Ollie Robinson finds the gap between bat and pad and flattens Jake Libby's middle stump.

This is some spell by the England pace bowler, who now has 4-25, and Worcestershire - like the trousers of an actor in a West End farce - are in a state of disarray.

So Steve Smith is finally here and making his Sussex debut. We're going to have to wait to see him in action out in the middle as Worcestershire are batting at New Road - but how excited are you, Sussex fans, by the prospect of seeing him bat, probably in tandem with Cheteshwar Pujara? Hampshire 23-1 v Warwickshire

The slow-going continues at the Rose Bowl. Oliver Hannon-Dalby has taken over from Chris Woakes in Warwickshire's first change.

OHD took a fivefer in the first innings when the Bears visited the south coast last July, though couldn't prevent his side losing by eight wickets.

I'm sure Hampshire would settle for a repeat of that this weekend...

    Worcestershire 32-3 v Sussex

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at New Road

We have an ongoing Jonny Bairstow watch, one for Anderson v Broad and no doubt one later for Steve Smith too.

But we clearly also need one for England paceman Ollie Robinson.

Five overs bowled, three wickets - and Worcestershire already in trouble.

Ed Pollock caught at third slip, Azhar Ali pinned and now Jack Haynes caught at first slip.

He is bowling very well, with pace. All good news for England - and Sussex, who have both him and Smith for three matches.

    Notts v Lancs 53-1

Lancashire have passed 50 in the ninth over, helped by Josh Bohannon's quickfire 27 not out off 20 balls.

Notts paceman Olly Stone was welcomed to the game with a wonderful back-foot punch by Bohannon through point for four.

Stone and Luke Fletcher, two members of a seam-heavy Notts bowling attack, have replaced the new-ball pair of Stuart Broad and Brett Hutton.

A little bit of inswing there for Kemar Roach as he completes a maiden over to Alastair Cook. Roach has so far sent down six overs in this tight spell and has 0-10.

A life for Sam Northeast, who edges Matt Fisher to Adam Lyth at second slip - but the Yorkshire captain is unable to snaffle it.

One you'd really expect Lyth to take.
