This could be a weather restricted three-day test, declaring on 393 may be the best way to push for a result. It will be interesting to see if Australia bat for a draw or dare for a win.

Hard to judge the declaration right now, if they'd got a wicket we'd be saying great call, if they get a few this morning then it's a great call. If Aus go big, not so much. That said, I thought it was a touch early at the time.

Stuart Broad bowling around the wicket to David Warner under overcast skies in damp conditions. I for one am feeling very comfortable with Stokes’ declaration decision.

Good start for Stuart Broad as he finds a leading edge first ball.

The ball lands safely on the off side but a bit of early encouragement for England.

Great day. Bob Willis was my manager on an England Under-19s tour in Barbados. We gave him absolute kittens, but he was a great man.

Bob definitely gave me a couple of barrages, but he did come and talk to the fast bowlers in Nottingham with me and Andy Flower and you could definitely see the other side of him. He certainly mowed me and everyone said there was a different side to him and there was.

The players from both sides are out now at Edgbaston, all wearing pale blue caps on Blue for Bob Day and there is 45 seconds applause to recognise that one man in the UK dies of prostate cancer every 45 minutes.

    A poignant moment.

It is Blue for Bob Day at Edgbaston today - the day where the club encourages everyone to wear blue to remember, and raise money in the memory of, England and Warwickshire legend Bob Willis.

Ricky Ponting, Michael Atherton and Kevin Pietersen have joined in with some smart blue blazers.

I'm going even. I think Australia will get about 400. I've been watching the warm-up, Anderson and Broad have got the ball swinging.

  11. 'A diminishing risk of showers'published at 11:00 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

BBC Weather presenter Matt Taylor: "It is going to stay a bit cloudy for a while yet. There's a few spots of rain around Worcestershire, Herefordshire at the moment which will get close by but it is a diminishing risk of showers which will takes us towards the end of the morning.

"What we have overhead at the moment is a warm front and as that moves north it will drag in some increasingly humid air into the Midlands for the rest of the day.

"But for the afternoon we should get lots of play in, not expecting any further interruptions with some good sunny spells and temperatures into the mid 20s."

The play is in England's hands. They've got the best swing bowler ever. If he can't swing it, no one can. Australia will feel very much in the game, get some spells into England's two senior bowlers, Ollie Robinson who has had injury issues and Moeen Ali, has been out of the game for two years.

I must warn you all that I had a terrible record last summer when it came to rain. I don't think I live texted a rain-free session until about mid-August...

However! This is a new cricketing summer and my luck may have changed! Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad are out warming up, suggesting the drizzle may have stopped.

I know there's a been a lot of commentary around it being the Ashes, but Ben Stokes has made it pretty clear what is happening. The last 20/30 minutes was pure theatre, amazing!
