The frustrating thing watching Steve Smith is that you always feel like he's got a chance!

  5. Aus 32-2published at 11 overs

Steve Smith is off the mark and in typical fashion.

He gets a long way across his stumps and just as you think 'don't miss that', his bat appears and he whips the ball away through the leg side.

The crowd rises to Stuart Broad at the end of the over. The man is a showman, he loves the big occasion!

  6. Aus 29-2published at 10.3 overs

Oh dear. Not quite what Stuart Broad was going for.

He sends the hat-trick delivery harmlessly down the leg side.

    Lift off.

Broad is off running to third man.

Jonny Bairstow is mobbed for the catch.

Now here come the boos for Steve Smith…

It's a stunner! Broad is running around! He's got Marnus Labuschagne! What are we seeing here?

EDGED AND GONE! Two in two balls! Incredible!

Stuart Broad gets the ball to move away from the right-hander but it's a nothing shot from Marnus Labuschagne.

He hangs the bat out, the edge is found and Jonny Bairstow takes the catch one-handed to his right.

Edgbaston erupts! Someone buy that policeman a drink....

Stuart Broad is getting the crowd going now as he prepares to bowl to Marnus Labuschagne....

The delivery is delayed by a police officer wandering in front of the sightscreen!

Wow, what a moment this morning. Stuart Broad has been toiling all morning. It wasn't the perfect delivery but it was the slightly wider one and Warner has lashed away at that one.

    GOT 'IM!

    It had to be...

A wide delivery from Stuart Broad, it tempts David Warner into the big shot but he drags the ball back onto his stumps!

It's a pretty ugly dismissal but England are jubilant, so are the Edgbaston crowd. England's bowlers are up and running.

Usman Khawaja is up and running now, clipping Anderson away for four. A pair of twos follow but he belatedly leaves the last ball as it swings away from him.

Nine from the over but there is still something there for England's bowlers. Not a lot but there's something.

From overs five to 10 yesterday to day, England are getting four times more swing, from almost nothing, but there are signs there.

A great delivery from Stuart Broad, he's getting his work in. He's getting that lovely shape and that wobble seam. The surface might be loosening up a bit.

  20. Aus 20-0published at 9 overs

There's a bit of excitement for England when Stuart Broad switches to over the wicket to Usman Khawaja.

A Khawaja leave brings a few gasps from the slip cordon, it was close to the off stump but left on length and it went just over the top.

A no-ball means an extra delivery and it nearly brings the wicket. Angled across Khawaja again and just past the edge.

    England are getting closer...
