Spare a thought for Ollie Pope. He has been at the other end, watching all this and waiting nervously to face his first ball of the day.

Then when he does, it's a beauty from Pat Cummins that snakes past his outside edge.

A leg bye brings Joe Root back on strike. No reverse ramps this time, just a clip to deep square for one before the last delivery from Cummins flicks off Pope's pad for four leg byes.

There's a certain Yorkshireman sitting at home watching this in his living room... I wonder what he makes of it?

First of all, what a shot. That's twice he's done it! Incredible. I think England are looking to bowl at Australia today. Joe Root has come out and offered a counter attack.

The net impact is Cameron Green - one of the best slip fielders around - has now been stationed on the boundary. It never ceases to amaze me this style of cricket.

The man is send back to stop Joe Root playing that reverse ramp. He leaves the next before pushing the last through cover for two.

Just an incredible start to day four! England's lead is quickly up 52.

    Welcome to Bazball, folks!

I was stood next to Eoin Morgan in the media food area when Joe Root hit that second ramp off Boland. He was grinning with pride.

Alex Carey is up to the stumps now... so Joe Root gets the reverse ramp out again and nails it!

Right over the wicketkeeper's head for six! Middled!

And again! This time over the slips for four. What a start!

What a good shot that is. Lovely. Scott Boland just strayed on to Root's leg stump.

Top shot! Joe Root takes a step down the pitch and whips Scott Boland through mid-wicket for four.

Joe Root is the absolute glue which binds together England's batting line-up and he attempts to reverse ramp him, first ball?! He'd have looked pretty silly if he had lost his middle pole. And he did it on nought! I think I'm getting too old for this game...

Far more conventional from Joe Root for the next couple of balls and he gets off the mark from the second of them, clipping a single down to fine leg.

I'm still reeling. It's Test cricket but not as we know it!

The biggest laugh of the Test has just gone around the press box after that shot from Root.

    Bazball, ey?

    What is going on!?!

Joe Root has just tried to reverse ramp the first ball of the day! He misses and the ball just goes over the top of off stump.

    Goodness me, what a start!

We've got three balls left in the Pat Cummins over that started yesterday afternoon before the day-ending downpour arrived.

    Joe Root is on strike.

I'm intrigued this morning about how England will be under pressure. Playing against the best bowling attack in the world, can they deliver? In the lead up to the series that was the big question, and now we will see if they can answer it.

Here come the players, England batters Joe Root and Ollie Pope both run onto the field to cheers from the Edgbaston crowd.

Australia have a big chance to take control of this match this morning. Can England hold them off and put the pressure back on the tourists?

You can bet there will be a few verbals flying around when Ollie Robinson comes out to bat.

As long as that doesn't happen until the evening session at the earliest, I don't think England or Robinson will really mind...

The first two days the sides have being feeling each other out, but Ollie Robinson has decided he wanted to give some out. I don't think England will mind too much. As you play the same players over a short period of time, it builds and builds. There will be so more flash points, I'm sure.

I think after sandpapergate there has been a change in Austalia's attitude. Pat Cummins is a lovely guy, he never says a word to the batter. Sides mould round their leader. Australia have been more relaxed under Cummins, but it will see how long that lasts!

There is a bit of cloud over Edgbaston at the moment but with pockets of blue sky either side.

England will hope that the sun burns off that cloud pretty quickly but either way, conditions look far more comfortable for batting than they did between those two rain delays yesterday!

Honours are even at the moment but if Australia get Joe Root, and get him early, then they will feel like they are on top in this Test match.
