Oof! That is a bold leave from Harry Brook.
Pat Cummins gets the ball to nip back off the seam and it whistles just past off stump as the England batter shouldered arms.
Cummins can't believe it missed!
Moving swiftly on...
Pat Cummins will continue and he's bowled superbly. The delivery to bowl Ollie Pope was a beauty.

I had a romantic evening with a spreadsheet last night... Ollie Pope averages a fraction under 48 in the first innings, but just 16 in the second innings. Of 413 players with more than 1,500 Test runs nobody has a greater ratio between their first and second innings averages. It's unusually pronounced.
Close! Joe Root advances to Cameron Green and is well across his stumps.
The ball from Green is angled down the leg side, gets past Root and is not too far away from leg stump.
Root shrugs it off and plays his trademark shot down to deep third next ball for a single.
Talking of sumptuous boundaries, here is Joe Root driving Scott Boland for four...
Lead by 101
England's lead moves into triple figures with a sumptuous shot from Harry Brook.
Too straight from Cameron Green and Brook caresses it through wide mid-on for four.
This is Pat Cummins' pitch map so far this morning. The Aussie seamer has largely bowled a good length or slightly back of a length - apart from the surprise yorker that accounted for Ollie Pope.

We are seeing some of the best Test cricket you will see. One of the best fast bowlers in the world against one of the best batters. This is enthralling.

In the early days of Bazball, Joe Root's approach to it drew criticism, and it looked like it didn't suit his natural batting style at all. Now he's worked it out it's an absolute joy to watch.

Root 42, Brook 1
After working the ball through the leg side for a pair of twos of Pat Cummins, Joe Root goes for the reverse ramp again.
He misses on this occasion and the deep third is still in place. Root is undeterred, though, and practices it again between deliveries.
Four more! Cummins tries another in-swinger but it's too straight and Root whips away behind square. Top shot.

I think Joe Root is now the owner of the most talked about dot ball ever.
A lot of talk will be about the ramp shots, but he's played some quite orthodox cricket shots and executed them beautifully. He's just leaned into a few and eased them to the boundary.
Lead by 89
With the field spread, it a more conventional approach from Joe Root now - and we know how well he does that.
The man at point is also back for Harry Brook so he is able to get off the mark with a defensive shot into the off side.
Root follows up with a lovely drive for two before a rare false shot to end the over, the inside edge brings him a single.

Would love to see this approach copied in other sports. Imagine a Premier League team sending the keeper up for a corner in the first five minutes? Or ditching 4-4-2 in favour of 7-2-1?

No surprise then that Scott Boland has been taken out of the attack. Cameron Green is coming on to replace him.
Harry Brook is the new batter for England.

Scott Boland's first three overs have gone for 31. By comparison England's seamers collectively bowled 18 overs for 48.

That's a great ball. A brilliant inswinging yorker from Pat Cummins. He's been trying that all morning and he gets it spot on. There's obviously just a little bit of something for the bowlers there. It's a strange pitch - it goes to sleep for a while then just wakes up for a little bit.
Pope b Cummins 14 (Eng 77-3)
What a delivery!
The perfect in-swinging yorker from the Australia captain. It's too quick for Ollie Pope and sneaks just under his bat to thud into off stump.
England have started brilliantly but Australia have hit back!

Are we going to see Pat Cummins get angry? He's a quiet pragmatic kind of guy. But you can be certain the adrenaline will be going. It will surely hurt your ego as a bowler with what England will be doing? Maybe you park you ego and just say 'see if you can do this for five Test matches in a row'.
