Just to emphasise the difference in styles. After 13 overs today Australia are 21-1. Yesterday after 13 overs England were 88-1.

Maiden over from Ollie Robinson. Usman Khawaja is happy to defend and leaves a tempter outside off stump last ball.
It's time for drinks and it looks like Robinson and Khawaja are exchanging words. Interesting after the send-off the other day and Jimmy Anderson guides Robinson away.

I am comfortable with Usman Khawaja playing each ball on its merits. Scott Boland did his job earlier. England's seamers are bowling well, too. If you bowl a disciplined line and length it can actually be a hard pitch to score runs on

Jimmy Anderson has had a magnificent career but this Test match has shown that Broad is now the superior bowler. The four-year age gap is showing. Broad just has more nip.
Tim, Southampton
If we can make sure Jimmy definitely sees this before the Lord's Test - or even at tea - we'll see what he makes of that, Tim...
Target 281
Australia are really struggling to score at the moment but England are helping them out with a few no-balls - Stuart Broad is the guilty man this time.
The extra ball nearly does for Usman Khawaja though! Broad went for the yorker, Khawaja tries to whip it away and just gets the toe-end of his bat on, diverting the ball down to fine leg for one.
For a second it looked like it was through him!

Usman Khawaja has scored four runs from 40 balls so far today.

Been working on power supply to a hospital. Accidentally tripped the power when that wicket went down. Hope no one was in surgery at around 2.30-2.45.

Hello! Stuart Broad goes short again to Travis Head and the Australian back a long way to the leg side and tries to thump the ball in front of square!
He doesn't get hold of it but both Broad and the crowd like it.

Jack: England drying the runs up this morning could bring wickets itself. Frustrate the Aussies. They won’t want to sit there for another 20 overs scoring at below two an over.

A louder chant of “boring, boring Aussies” now.
Will this tactic cost them?
Target 281
England have got half of the umbrella/ wall field setting in place as Ollie Robinson bowls over the wicket to Usman Khawaja.
The Australia opener is able to leave where he can so the only runs from the over come from a pair of no-balls.
Just the one wicket in the first hour, Stuart Broad got it again as he lured Scott Boland into a drive.
The nightwatchman nicked it and Jonny Bairstow took his fourth catch of the innings.

It's getting sunnier and sunnier in the south of the city, contrary to other reports (and neither Solihull nor the north is where the weather is coming from).

Traditionally in England you think of catches behind, but at this stage of the game it's about cover and extra cover where the batter is through his shot early.
Target 281
Stuart Broad is over the wicket, angling the ball across Usman Khawaja and the Aussie opener very nearly has fiddle at the firs ball of the over.
He restrained himself just in time. Just a leg-bye from the over.

Just had a bit of a mishap here. Can’t say much more but has anybody got a number for Andy the Undertaker?

This is a better angle from Ollie Robinson. Around the wicket, for Travis Head early in his innings where he is keen to feel bat on ball.
Target 281
Ollie Robinson takes a more conventional approach against Travis Head, bowling round the wicket and hanging the ball just outside off with a couple of slips in.
Head does push at a couple, hitting into the covers without any real conviction.
The sun is shining now at Edgbaston. Quite the turnaround after the rain we had this morning.

The England fan with the trumpet is playing Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel.
Change of bowling, Ollie Robinson is on to replace Jimmy Anderson.
Is that with the short-ball ploy to Travis Head in mind, I wonder?
