It drains me that we've had to call pro-active, positive, momentum-building and energy generating cricket "Bazball" for it to gain a following. We're doing things for the right reasons, without fear, and I hope that spirit lives long after Baz or any others are watching in their armchairs.

Think Stokes would have them out there playing in wellies if he could.

    Rich, Maidstone

Considering once the light reading is set, they have to play to it, in the conditions that Crawley and Duckett got out in the other day, we could play until 10:30pm!

Can England get the crowd going this morning? There is going to be a big crowd. Fifth day and we think it is going to be pretty much sold out and it is going to be rocking.

Yes, it has been raining. It was miserable on the way to the ground. But if England get an early wicket then the place is going to be absolutely jumping.

  9. 'Same energy of 2005'published at 09:44 British Summer Time 20 June 2023

Among those talking about that 2005 classic last night was Stuart Broad but the England bowler is hoping it isn't quite as close as that today.

He has the chance to make sure that it isn't, of course...

"It does feel like the same energy as 2005, and if we have a series like that we're going to inspire a lot of kids to play the game, aren't we?" said Broad.

"I was at my mum's house and watching it almost hiding behind the sofa. I'm not sure we want it going to two runs tomorrow from our point of view do we? Please."

You will be hearing quite a lot about 2005 today - it's already been mentioned a fair bit - given the similarities between that Ashes classic and this one.

So for the uninitiated, here is a quick summary of one of the all-time great Tests...

After Australia great Glenn McGrath injured himself standing on a cricket ball in the warm-up, England smashed 407 on day one (England declared on 393-8 this time).

From there the game ebbed and flowed with some brilliant performances from Freddie Flintoff, Shane Warne and Brett Lee.

Eventually, Australia were set 282 to win (they need 281 in this one). Steve Harmison's brilliant slower ball to bowl Michael Clarke left them 175-8.

Game over? Not quite, the tail wagged for Australia and Lee and Michael Kasprowicz took them to within three runs of victory before Harmison had the latter caught behind down the leg side.

(Kasprowicz's hand was off the bat so it shouldn't have been given but we don't talk about that.)

England won by two runs and went on to win the Ashes for the first time in 18 years.

I’ve just got soaked arriving at Edgbaston. It’s still pouring down but the ground staff are already into their work, taking water from the outfield. I highly doubt we’ll start at 11:00 BST.

  13. Revised session timespublished at 09:26 British Summer Time 20 June 2023

We're still trying to make up for the time lost to rain on day three so it's another extended day. These are the session times, although with the rain around it is highly likely to change...

    • Morning session: 11:00-13:15
    • Lunch: 13:15-13:55
    • Afternoon session: 13:55-16:10
    • Tea: 16:10-16:30
    • Evening session: 16:30-18:30

    All times are BST.

    A reminder of today's ZaltzQuiz:

After a mesmerising, fluctuating fourth day, we could be set for another gripping Edgbaston finish to set alongside the 2005 nail-biter.

Since 1926, 10 men's Ashes Test matches have been won by margins of fewer than 25 runs or three wickets. How many of those 10 games has each team won?

It is looking very rainy indeed. I'm afraid it is absolutely hammering down.

Looking at the radar, though, it is going to clear by about 11 o'clock. My guess would be we're unlikely to get any play before half past 12 or 1 o'clock.

The next question is what impact it is going to have to the conditions? If the clouds stick around, that's going to be a big bonus for England because the bowlers will get that little bit of extra movement.
