Saif Zaib has indeed joined the Northants attack.

    One slip.

Simpson is defending, playing as late as possible. Maiden over.

    Surrey 355 & 340 v Notts 399 & 32-0

Sean Abbott's first over of the Notts second innings.

He tries out Haseeb Hameed with a bouncer but the opener puts it away with a flourish of the bat which is reminiscent of some of the West Indies greats of the 1970s and 80s.

  4. wicket

WICKET Hill c Carlson b Harris 78published at 15:06 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Glamorgan 403-9 dec v Leicestershire 197-2

No fourth century of the year for the Foxes skipper who tries an almighty hook off James Harris but can only send a catch to Kiran Carlson deep on the leg side.

Colin Ackermann joins Rishi Patel, who shared 168 for that second wicket with Hill.

  5. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Derby 50-2 - target 380

Guest is back and across to cut Coles through cover point for a single.

That's the Derby 50 in the 12th over.

  6. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 242-4 v Essex 282 v 292-8 dec

Phil Salt tries to cut Matt Critchley but the ball is too close for the shot.

Sir Alastair Cook's weight is on the back foot, though, at first slip and he can't grab the ball with his left hand and it runs away for four.

  7. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 126-3 - target 323

We might get lucky here. Most of the darker clouds have moved away from the ground.

Robson is back and across to defend against Taylor.

The last ball is a bouncer and Robson sways out of the way.

  8. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 340 v Notts 399 & 27-0

Ben Slater square cuts Dan Worrall past point for four.

A bit of intent in that one but there's only one more run from the over.

Notts need 270 off 45 to win.

  9. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Somerset 500 v Hampshire 330 & 123-7

12 dot balls to start for Liam Dawson... who scored 141 in Hampshire's last match, remember. Nick Gubbins has been trying to keep him off strike too, with some rough for the spinners to use against right-handers.

Anyway Dawson has had enough and slaps two boundaries down the ground, the first to the off-side, the second an on-drive from a full-toss.

The deficit is into the 40s, but more significantly the overs remaining is also in the 40s.

  10. wicket

WICKET Reece c Clark b Shipley 17published at 14:59 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Derbys 47-2 - target 380

A good low catch at second slip by Clark as Reece edges a flashing drive off the bowling of Shipley.

Now it's time for Wayne Madsen to have a bat.

  11. Postpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 124-3 - target 323

The groundstaff have moved back the boundary boards where the covers oae - which I'm afraid suggests rain might be coming.

That's a beauty from Keogh, beating the left-handed Simpson outside off.

The second ball is cut away through point for one.

Robson goes back and punches the 5th ball to mid off for one to move to 47.

  12. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 233-4 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

Essex now have spin from both ends and Rob Jones steers through the covers for four in Matt Critchley's latest over.

Emboldened by that, he lofts Simon Harmer for six in the next and moves to 30 not out.

    The target is 430.

  13. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Derbys 46-1 - target 380

Guest picks up four more off Carson, waiting for a slow, short delivery and pulling square.

The spinner kicks the turf in frustration.

  14. Postpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Surrey 355 & 340 v Notts 399 & 15-0

Haseeb Hameed flashes at a wide one from Dan Worrall, but the ball flies past the outside edge.

He makes contact, though, with a forcing shot off the back foot and they run three.

  15. Postpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 121-3 - target 323

Saif Zaib is limbering up - so might we see some of his left arm spin?

Keogh bowling for now and Robson is well forward, driving through the off side for four.

    He's on 46.

  16. Back underway at New Roadpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Worcs 242 & 49-2 v Yorkshire 407

Ben Coad sends down the final three balls of his rain-interrupted over to Gareth Roderick who is happy to let them sail through to the keeper.

Worcestershire need 116 runs to avoid an innings defeat, Yorkshire need eight wickets, and have 48 overs to do it, barring any further interruptions by Mother Nature.

  17. Postpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Derbys 33-1 - target 380

Well, maybe they're going for it!

Successive fours for Luis Reece off Carson, who whips the spinner through mid-wicket and then sweeps behind square.

Guest flicks Karvelas away through mid-wicket for four more at the other end.

  18. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Middlesex 117-3 - target 323

Another good over from Keogh, costing just a couple of runs with plenty of well-directed flight and a hint of turn.

Tom Taylor is into the attack, replacing Jack White, who is off the field.

The first ball is almost through Simpson who plays late, but safely.

The fifth ball spits up off a length and Simpson is right behind it to defend.

  19. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Lancs 145 & 218-4 v Essex 282 & 292-8 dec

The Lancashire scoring rate has slowed at Stanley Park.

Simon Harmer starts a new spell and there are just a couple of singles from the over.

The theoretical target is another 212 from 46 overs.

  20. 100 runs

for Rishi Patelpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 13 July 2023

    Glamorgan 403-9 dec v Leicestershire 181-1

    Rishi PatelImage source, Rex Features

After 10 balls on 99... the 24-year-old's fourth of the season and a very eye-catching contribution indeed.

Patel moved closer with a delicious straight six off Timm van der Gugten, his second, and reaches three figures with his 12th four, carved down to third off Mitch Swepson.

    It took him 153 balls.
