  1. Postpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 238 & 36-1 v Surrey 433

Back out at Lord's where it is very gloomy indeed. A point which you'd expect Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson to be making to the umpires.

They're told to get on with it, for now... the floodlights are going on.

  2. Game on at Edgbastonpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

Lancashire 327 and 28-2 Warwickshire 212 - lunch, day three

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

As at most cricket matches today much of the talk at Edgbaston has been about the grim weather forecast for tomorrow.

But fears that this match would drift towards a tame draw have proved unfounded so far after a morning session which saw seven wickets fall for 61 runs.

Warwickshire made something of a dog's dinner of their batting, subsiding to 212 all out, their five dismissals including a run out and a comprehensive stumping.

But Olly Hannon-Dalby finished the session with a fine spell of bowling to claim two wickets.

Lancashire may feel they need to win so it'll be interesting to see if they gamble with a view to getting Warwickshire in again today.

  3. Kent pair bat throughout morningpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Essex 458-8 dec v Kent 207 & 91-1 - lunch, day three

    Paul Newton
    BBC Essex sport

Essex's anticipated victory march was abruptly halted by Ben Compton, 34, and Harry Finch, 48, who batted throughout the morning session in an unbroken second wicket partnership of 86.

Kent need 251 to avoid an innings defeat, but the combination of a slow pitch and an ominous forecast for tomorrow give Kent every chance of achieving a draw.

Simon Harmer's 16 overs have yielded a miserly 21 runs but, to Essex's disappointment, nothing as yet in the wickets column.

  4. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Lancashire 327 & 28-2, Warwickshire 212

Not quite the morning anyone expected here.

Five Warwickshire wickets gone inside 52 minutes followed by an hour or so of torture for the Lancashire batting line-up.

Luke Wells copped for a third-baller, Keaton Jennings has still made just a single from his 42 balls faced, and Phil Salt is yet to score. And the one visiting player who did make a few runs, Josh Bohannon, never looked comfortable and managed just one boundary.

  5. Restart at Trent Bridgepublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Hampshire 166 & 344-5 dec, Notts 100 & 45-2 (target 411)

Back underway at Trent Bridge as Haseeb Hameed successfully negotiates the final ball of Kyle Abbott's uncompleted over.

13 overs have been lost by the rain break.

That leaves a further 82 still to conceivably be bowled today, if Notts can take it that far?

  6. Lunch at Lord'spublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 238 & 30-1 v Surrey 433

Despite Mark Stoneman's flurry of boundaries before lunch taking him to 24*, Middlesex are still staring down the barrel.

Dan Worrall ousted Pieter Malan with the third ball of the innings and seems to have the ball on a piece of string at times.

The hosts are 165 runs behind and will need to bat well into tomorrow, or at least until the weather arrives, to avoid defeat.

  7. wicket

    WICKET Bohannon c sub (Ackerman) b Hannon-Dalby 25published at 13:06 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Lancashire 327 & 28-2, Warwickshire 181-5

A second wicket for Warwickshire - and a second wicket for OHD, as Josh Bohannon turns the tall paceman to sub fielder Marques Ackerman at midwicket.

Batting is not loooking at all easy out there, as Phil Salt comes out to join his skipper Keaton Jennings, who has managed just one run off 38 balls.

Lunch at Edgbaston delayed today, as they look to make up some lost time from yesterday.

South African Ackerman, who is over here playing Birmingham League cricket, is on as replacement for Chris Rushworth, who is having treatment on a calf injury.

  8. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Essex 458-8 dec v Kent 207 & 91-1

Kent have batted through the session without losing a wicket. That's not something which happens every week.

Ben Compton (34*) and Harry Finch (48*) have dug in well and added 87 to their overnight score to leave Kent 160 runs behind at lunch.

Plenty more work to do, of course, but it's a bright start for the visitors in their quest to bat through the day to save the game.

  9. 'Frantic morning'published at 12:58 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Yorkshire 364-8 dec v Sussex 216 & 23-0 - lunch, day three

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A frantic morning at Headingley, Yorkshire adding 78 runs in just 9.2 overs to declare with a lead of 148.

Dawid Malan scored 41 of those runs before falling eight short of a century as the Sussex attack was dispatched to all parts.

In reply Haines and Clark survived 9.1 overs against accurate bowling from Coad and Fisher although Clark was dropped in the slips when the score was six.

A brief shower has brought at early lunch with a resumption at 13:30 BST.

  10. SOMERSET BEAT NORTHANTS BY NINE WICKETSpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 224 v Somerset 351 & 56-1

Northants did oust Sean Dickson early-on but Tom Lammonby (30*) and Tom Abell (14*) have seen the visitors over the line with five sessions to spare.

Dickson's 70 and a half-century from George Bartlett provided the foundation for their first innings 351 and then Matt Henry and Craig Overton took over.

They shared 15 wickets across two innings, with Henry claiming 8-109, and only Ricardo Vasconcelos (78) and Luke Procter (87*) providing any real resistance for the hosts in either innings.

Somerset needed 54 to win and they rattled it off inside 11 overs to claim 22 points while Northants only secured three.

  11. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Hampshire 166 & 344-5 dec, Notts 100 & 45-2

Following the extended bad weather break, they have now opted to take an early lunch in Nottingham.

They have been off the field since 11:43, so it's rather open-ended as to when they might get a restart. But it has been the expected rain that has been keeping them off, rather than bad light.

And they had already warned that it was on the way, as it was already raining just up the A52 in Derby.

  12. wicket

WICKET Malan b Worrall 0published at 12:44 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 238 & 0-1 v Surrey 433

Three balls. That;s all it took. Dan Worrall produces a superb delivery to beat Pieter Malan, promoted to open, and smash the top of off stump.

Nightmare start for the hosts. Mark Stoneman is joined by Sam Robson in the middle. They weren't parted for long.

  13. Postpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 224 v Somerset 351 & 30-1

Tom Lammonby has ridden his luck in this mini session, getting away with a couple of genuine edges, the latest off Ben Sanderson flashing past the hand of Justin Broad at third slip and away to the rope.

24 needed. Presumably lunch would be delayed allowing Somerset to get over the line if needed.

  14. Bears bowling well in Birminghampublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Lancashire 327 & 14-1, Warwickshire 181-5

Runs are not coming as easily as Lancashire would like in Birmingham.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby has bowled a fierce opening spell, well backed up by Mir Hamza, both of whom have had several big shouts turned down.

And Keaton Jennings has so far managed just one run from 16 balls.

  15. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Essex 458-8 dec v Kent 207 & 75-1

No news is good news for Kent fans. They are 176 behind with a stand of 71 between these two.

Ben Compton has moved onto 21 from 83 balls while Harry Finch has 43 from 76 thanks to his fourth four off Matt Critchley.

Finch made a duck and a half-century last time out. He registered a duck yesterday....

  16. Division Two latestpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

After going on the charge with the bat this morning, Yorkshire declared on 364-8 at Headingley - a lead of 148 over Sussex. The visitors are 23-0 in their second innings.

Play has resumed between Derbyshire and Durham. Migael Pretorious fell early on to Sam Conners to leave Durham 367-5 and still trailing by 76.

Glamorgan are scoring freely against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham. They're 250-4 with Kiran Carlson unbeaten on 45 from 47 balls. That game is on day two.

  17. wicket

WICKET Murtagh b Abbott 8published at 12:31 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 238 v Surrey 433

Tim Murtagh is cleaned-up by Sean Abbott trying an ambitious smash to mid-on. The ball smashes middle and leg.

    Surrey have enforced the follow-on.

Another tricky 20 mins to come before lunch for Middlesex.

  18. Postpublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 238-9 v Surrey 433

Tim Murtagh has joined Josh De Caires in boundary city, hooking to fine leg and then punching down the ground off Jamie Overton.

De Caires has 30 from 34 balls with four fours and that six.

The hosts are tantalisingly close to a batting point.

  19. wicket

WICKET Dickson c McManus b Sanderson 1published at 12:24 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 224 v Somerset 351 & 11-1

Good catch from Lewis McManus tumbling to his right after Sean Dickson edges behind off Ben Sanderson. A nothing shot from Dickson, really. Angled the bat almost like slip practice.

Whoops from Northants. They need nine more, however.

    43 needed for victory.

Tom Abell is the new man... and gets rapped on the pads straight off. Huge appeal. Nothing doing says umpire Nigel Llong.

  20. 6 runs

for Josh De Cairespublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 229-9 v Surrey 433

Josh De Caires gets down on one knee and wallops Tom Lawes over deep mid-wicket for six.

    He couldn't, could he?
