Tom Lammonby and Sean Dickson stride out to try and wrap victory up before lunch.

Lammonby finds the rope from the second ball of the over from Ben Sanderson but then gets a bit of luck as he edges towards Justin Broad who cannot hold on at boot height at fourth slip.

    50 needed to win

  2. Postpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 216-9 v Surrey 433

Josh De Caires cracks a couple of fours off Tom Lawes and then takes a single to keep strike to move to a run-a-ball 16.

34 more runs required for a bonus point. 68 to avoid the follow-on. 218 more for a first-innings lead.

Surrey have opted not to take the available new ball... yet.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Wells lbw b Hannon-Dalby 0published at 12:05 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Lancashire 327 & 0-1, Warwickshire 212

Early strike for OHD as Luke Wells is trapped in front to the third ball of the innings.

Josh Bohannon comes in and will face a ball before Keaton Jennings does.

Bohannon gets away with an lbw shout off Mir Hamza.

Maybe there is another possible result in this game too? Unlikely home win?

  4. wicket

WICKET White c Abell b Overton 1published at 12:04 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 224 v Somerset 351

Jack White prods at a tempting delivery from Craig Overton and edges to Tom Abell at slip. That'll do it, with Sam Whiteman not batting in this innings.

Overton finished with 7-120 for the match with Matt Henry claiming 8-109. Handy pair, those two.

Luke Procter is stranded on a heroic 87* which featured 13 fours and ensured Northants lead by 53.

Somerset have five sessions and change in which to knock those off.

  5. wicket

    WICKET Helm c b Lawes 1published at 12:01 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 200-9 v Surrey 433

    From 196-5 to 200-9.

Tom Lawes finds the edge of Tom Helm's bat, there is a spectacular attempt at a catch at gully before the ball is parried up for Tom Latham to claim the catch at second slip.

Tim Murtagh joins Josh De Caires in the firing line, sorry middle.

  6. wicket

WICKET Higgins b Overton 3published at 11:54 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 199-8 v Surrey 433

What a ball from Jamie Overton. Middlesex are crumbling. Overton manages to beat Ryan Higgins' defence and clip the outside of off stump. Wild celebrations ensue.

Josh De Caires and Tom Helm are the new pairing, still 51 shy of a batting bonus point, oh, and 233 behind Surrey's first innings total.

WARWICKSHIRE BOWLED OUT BY LANCSpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

Rushworth st Salt b Wells (Lancashire 327, Warwickshire 212)

Last man Chris Rushworth is stumped off Luke Wells - and Warwickshire's first innings comes to an end inside just 52 minutes at Edgbaston this morning.

Five wickets have gone down. the last four of them inside seven overs.

They have added just 33 runs to be bowled out for 212 - and Lancs take a healthy first-innings lead of 115.

Given the Armageddon-like forecast tomorrow, Lancs' only realistic hope is to get a result today, so expect quick runs now - and a mid-afternoon target being set.

Birmingham may be about to go Bazball.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Sanderson c & b Henry 9published at 11:52 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 211-8 v Somerset 351

    That's a five-wicket haul for Matt Henry.

Ben Sanderson has played a nice little cameo but can only play inside out and chip a simple return catch to the bowler who now has 5-68 and eight for the match.

The Northants lead is 40. Jack White is the de-facto last man.

  9. 'Hosts made a fine start'published at 11:50 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Gloucestershire v Glamorgan 203-4

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

The hosts made a fine start with the ball on a cloudy morning as Dutch paceman Paul Van Meekeren, bowling his first spell in Championship cricket in five years, dismissed both overnight batters in his opening spell.

Colin Ingram edged to slip in the first over of the day without adding to his overnight 17, while Sam Northeast looked set before being bowled for 28 off his pads.

Glamorgan’s leading scorer Kiran Carlson bottom-edged his first ball for four but was quickly into his stride, scoring at nearly a run a ball.

On a good pitch, Glamorgan will be keen to rack up the bonus points in the promotion race, with the threat of bad weather around tomorrow meaning there could be the chance of an arranged run-chase on the final day if play is possible.

  10. wicket

    WICKET Bamber c & b Overton 13published at 11:49 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 198-7 v Surrey 433

What a catch. Jamie Overton bangs in a short one, Ethan Bamber loops it up into the leg side and Overton superbly changes direction and scrambles across to his right to take a superb diving catch at full stretch.

  11. wicket

    WICKET - Hannon-Dalby run out 2published at 11:47 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Lancashire 327, Warwickshire 211-9

A quite ludicrous run-out at Edgbaston as new signing Mir Hamza calls Oliver Hannon-Dalby for an unexpected 'drop and run' quick single.

OHD was not quite ready for the task in hand, Keaton Jennings' throw is accurate, George Bell does the rest - and the umpire has an easy decision to make.

Chris Rushworth, nursing a calf injury which will prevent him from bowling, comes in to bat with a runner. After Hamza's earlier call, this should be fun!

  12. Postpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Essex 458-8 dec v Kent 207 & 32-1

Jamie Porter is into the attack for the first time this morning and finds the outside edge of Harry Finch's bat almost immediately.

The edge flies past keeper Adam Rossington's hand as he dived to his right and streaks away to the rope for four.

Kent breathe again. Porter looks to the heavens.

Ben Compton has six from 49 deliveries. Finch now has 21 from 39.

  13. Bad light stops play at Trent Bridgepublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Hampshire 166 & 344-5 dec, Notts 100 & 45-2 (target 411)

They're coming off in Nottingham, with Haseeb Hameed on 24 and Joe Clarke having just got off the mark with a single first ball.

Umpires Paul Pollard and Russell Warren have consulted their light meters - and the hover cover is hurtling noisiiy towards the middle.

Whether or not it is actually raining yet is hard to deduce from the relative comfort of a commentary box, but it looks fairly ugly.

Hampshire, for sure, will be very keen to get back out there as soon as possible.

  14. wicket

    WICKET - Young c Brown b Abbott 8published at 11:38 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Hampshire 166 & 344-5 dec, Notts 100 & 40-2

Hampshire make a second breakthrough as Kyle Abbott extracts some lift from the surface and Will Young is caught behind, by a leaping Ben Brown at full stretch.

Joe Clarke is the new man in.

  15. wicket

WICKET Simpson c Foakes b Lawes 60published at 11:35 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 196-6 v Surrey 433

Oh dear. John Simpson has played superbly for 132 balls but he's followed Tom Lawes down leg side, trying to glance to fine leg, but can only offer an edge to Ben Foakes, flying superbly to his right. Great catch and he has to go.

The hosts are six down and Ryan Higgins joins Ethan Bamber who is on 13*.

  16. Postpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Middlesex 196-5 v Surrey 433

Ethan Bamber has slapped (pulled?) Sean Abbott down to the mid-off boundary for four and Middlesex are inching towards 200.

They have two batting bonus points so far this season, they are 54 away from another.

  17. wicket

    WICKET - Briggs c Bell b Wells 10published at 11:31 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Lancashire 327, Warwickshire 197-8

Two wickets in four balls for Lancashire as Luke Wells gets in on the act from the City End.

Danny Briggs is also snapped up by George Bell, at short leg.

With Chris Rushworth nursing an injury, perennial last man Oliver Hannon-Dalby comes out at No 10 to join Mir Hamza.

The Bears still trail by 131.

Scott Read is right. There might still be something in this game today.

  18. Postpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Northants 180 & 194-7 v Somerset 351

A couple of lusty blows from Ben Sanderson bring up consecutive boundaries off Craig Overton and Luke Procter does the same to Matt Henry.

The lead is 23. What kind of number will start to frustrate the visitors? They had Northants 124-6 remember...

  19. wicket

    WICKET - Burgess c Bell b Morley 9published at 11:28 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Lancashire 327, Warwickshire 197-7

Another wicket at Edgbaston - and a second scalp for Jack Morley.

Michael Burgess is next to go, caught at leg slip.

New man in is Mir Hamza.

  20. WORCESTERSHIRE BEAT LEICESTERSHIREpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 21 July 2023
    Breaking

    Worcestershire (178 & 169) beat Leicestershire (110 & 137) by 100 runs

It took Worcestershire around 25 minutes to claim the three Leicestershire wickets they needed as Josh Tongue finishes things off with two wickets in three balls.

The England paceman finishes with 5-29.

The Pears climb to second in the table, above Leicestershire by virtue of their three wins to the Foxes' two.
