Australia will be reasonably happy, if they have a good session after tea they will be in control of this Test, but for England post tea will be really crucial.

  2. Tea - Aus 187-4published at 49 overs

Having just bowled, Chris Woakes has to chase all the way down to the fine leg boundary to save a four off Moeen Ali, which he does successfully.

Mitchell Marsh blocks the final two balls, and that'll be tea. England are buzzing after the wicket of Labuschagne, and they'll be delighted to see the back of him and Smith.

But that's still a profitable session for Australia, with Travis Head looking dangerous.

Here's the moment Marnus Labuschagne brought up his half-century.

It'll be followed by the wicket video soon, don't worry.

What is impressive about Stokes' captaincy is that he is really good at reviews. He could be a first class umpire after he retires, but I'm not sure he'll take that route.

  5. Aus 184-4published at 48 overs

Marsh is looking a little jittery early on. He's struck on the pad by Woakes, which draws half an appeal, but it's too high.

    A maiden.

Marsh is a dangerous player but he will be at his most vulnerable now.

  7. Aus 184-4published at 47.3 overs

Mitchell Marsh, who scored that incredible century at Headingley, is in at six.

Alongside Travis Head, this could be an exciting partnership for Australia and a dangerous one for England.

And on that note, Marsh charges down the pitch to Chris Woakes and is beaten on the outside edge.

Moeen’s honey finger gets its first victim. A cracker!

  9. Aus 184-4published at 47 overs

That's the over England were after.

The wicket of Labuschagne, and just one run from it. Moeen Ali is sent out to field on the boundary and gets a huge cheer and applause from the Old Trafford crowd.

Can they sneak another before tea?!

You can tell Marnus Labuschagne is totally exasperated, he was playing well and my goodness, England needed that wicket.

    Gone!

    Old Trafford erupts!

Labuschagne is disgusted with himself. He worked so hard to get to his fifty, and gives away a soft dismissal by playing around a rather innocuous straight one.

There's a hint of turn, but it's not a ball that should be getting a batter of his quality out on when he's set.

  13. England reviewpublished at 46.1 overs

Are we going to get successful lbw review number two?

England think Moeen Ali has got Marnus Labuschagne.

But again, it's given not out on the field...

If Head gets through the tricky bit then he really gets going. That was an amazing cover drive and now he hurts you quickly. Marnus Labuschagne does it slowly.

    Aus 183-3

    A hard-fought half-century for Australia's number three.

He gets there after a firm cut for four followed by another drive for three, and he'll feel very relieved with that after a lean series so far.

And just to keep rubbing salt into Chris Woakes' wound, Travis Head absolutely nails the last ball of the over to the cover boundary.

    Power.

Hitting refresh in the depths of a zinc process plant desperate for Broady to strike the 600 mark so that the Aussie standing near me pipes down and goes back to, well, laying down his pipes.

I don't think it brushed the glove, but it did turn.

  18. Aus 171-3published at 45 overs

Marnus Labuschagne takes a skip down the pitch, and a bit of extra bounce makes the ball pop up in the air and into Bairstow's gloves.

The keeper likes it, but Ben Stokes doesn't give him the review and rightly so. Right off the pad.

Still, promising signs for Moeen, and not so much for Australia who haven't selected a spinner.
