You’ve got to fancy England to win the Test match because England over the last five or six Innings have bowled Australia out for around 260 to 300.

But in a funny kind way this is what Australia need. I think they'll play better trying to chase the total rathe than thinking that they only need to bat three and a half session to draw the game.

I think we're in for a cracker. I think we couldbe in for a classic.

Every run is going to be important. England don't need more, but they want more.

Ben Stokes gives off this attitude that it doesn't matter. But as a captain you always want another 60, 70 runs because it gives you a bit of comfort in the field if a partnership gets going.

Well, the day started in entertaining fashion and it just didn't stop from there.

England kept going, and going, and going.

Zak Crawley did what he does best, Ben Duckett chipped in again, and Ben Stokes provided some solidity at number three.

With the new ball now due, do you really push James Anderson out there? One of your precious assets?

  7. Close of play - Eng 389-9published at 80 overs

A swing and a miss from the final ball, and that is that.

    What. A. Day.

England finish it nine wickets down with a lead of 377. Will that be it, or will we see Broad and Anderson come back out tomorrow for one final effort?

    How's your luck, Todd Murphy?

    It's going over the stumps!

He can only laugh in disbelief.

And out next ball... or is he?

Anderson tries the reverse again, is hit on the arm, and given.

Todd Murphy sighs as he sends it for a review. Did he get some bat on it?

  11. 6 runs

    Eng 389-9published at 79.4 overs

    Go on!

    Slog-swept for six!

Stuart Broad took that single for a reason. Never in doubt.

There it is! And it's four!

    The Oval loved that one.

  14. Eng 381-9published at 79.1 overs

Stuart Broad takes a single first ball, and kindly leaves five balls from the spinner to Jimmy at the other end!

    Reverse sweep incoming?

James Anderson is getting bits chipped off him here.

  17. Eng 380-9published at 79 overs

Again, Anderson fends off a short ball and just manages not to fall onto his stumps.

A yorker then crashes into his toes, but it's going down the leg side. He's taking a bit of a beating, and somehow survives it.

    That has really hurt him.

  19. ouch!

    Eng 380-9published at 78.2 overs

    Nasty.

Anderson is pinned on the elbow by Mitchell Starc and actually does very well to not stagger back onto his stumps.

He takes a few minutes out to compose himself, and replays show it just evaded his arm-guard - typical.

A lot of angry words are being shouted the Australians way for delaying to make sure they don't have to bat tonight.
