Nope, his bat hits the ground.

    We'll carry on.

Australia optimistically send a review for a caught behind upstairs as Anderson misses out on his favoured reverse sweep.

Australia just keep tinkering with the field to ensure that they definitely don't have to bat tonight.

    Jimmy Anderson waits patiently.

Jimmy Anderson has said he isn't going to retire but this crowd is giving him a huge ovation just in case.

England have just been a bit frivolous at the end.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 77.2 overs

    Wood c Marsh b Murphy 9 (Eng 379-9)

The tail is not quite wagging.

Mark Wood plays a lovely reverse sweep for four from the previous ball but holes out to the next, slogging it straight to Mitchell Marsh in the deep.

Still, England's lead is 367. Enough?

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 77 overs

    Moeen c Hazlewood b Starc 29 (Eng 375-8)

    Caught at third man!

Batting with the tail, Moeen had to have a go. It's a weird shot, as he's trying to leave after initially trying to play an upper cut.

But the pace of Starc means the ball flies down to the boundary and is well held by Josh Hazlewood.

The highest successful run chase at The Oval is England's 263-9 to beat Australia in 1902.

  9. Eng 374-7published at 76.4 overs

A couple of swings and misses from Moeen at the short balls, before Starc pitches one up and Moeen gives himself some room but it's brilliantly saved by a diving Pat Cummins at mid-off.

Moeen is then denied four by a sprawling Marnus Labuschagne at fine leg, who receives some rare applause from the crowd. He gives them a polite wave to say thanks.

It has been non-stop from start to finish today.

And it's not going to stop now, as Mitchell Starc gears up to bowl to Moeen Ali and I suspect the short stuff is coming...

    Missing the stumps!

Literally nothing is going Todd Murphy's way. He has toiled and toiled, review after review, with little reward.

Although he did get the big wickets of Root and Stokes, so that's something.

It has hit him in line I think. And it is not an inside edge...

  13. England reviewpublished at 75.4 overs

OK, there's something every ball at the moment.

Mark Wood is given lbw on the field, and sends it upstairs. Is it just a review of hope, because England have three left?

Here's a nice illustration of how Jonny Bairstow's sparkling knock was brought to an end by Mitchell Starc.

350/360 is plenty to see these Aussies off - let’s get in the field.

    Andy, Symonds Yat.

Surely with the questionable declaration timing so far we’ll declare now with 350 up and a chance at the Aussies tonight. Surely?

    Abigail from Oakham, Rutland

Cricket novice here, so go easy... In the first match England declared (and were criticised for it). In the last match England didn't declare (and lost to the rain). Would a declaration be sensible here?

  16. Eng 371-7published at 75 overs

    Here we go!

Moeen clubs it over mid-wicket for four and past a diving (but ultimately failing) Steve Smith, who clatters into the advertising boards and gets a few words from the crowd for good measure.

Mark Wood then drills the last ball of the over down the ground, but only for a single.

Here's Mark Wood, and this is going to be fun.

He goes for an almighty heave first ball but it keeps a little low, and he just manages a single - but it gets Moeen on strike...

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 74.1 overs

    Woakes c Khawaja b Starc 1 (Eng 364-7)

    Gone this time.

Chris Woakes tries to hit over the top but doesn't connect, and chips it straight to mid-off.

It looks soft but England's intent is pretty clear.
