WICKET Paterson c Leaning b Nijjar 16published at 11:10 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 229-9

Out! Aron Nijjar has his fourth wicket.

Jack Leaning has his fifth catch.

Good flight and dip on that ball from Nijjar. Dane Paterson drives loosely down the ground and lobs a catch to Leaning.

Asitha Fernano is the Notts number 11.

  3. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 229-8

One for the purists, I fancy. Seven runs in the first half hour of play this morning.

We have a slip, leg slip and a short leg for Aron Nijjar.

Brett Hutton leaves outside off stump - and then gets a single off the third ball, pushed through point.

Hello! The fifth ball is tossed up and Paterson lofts a drive just shy of mid off for two.

  4. Postpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 226-8

This really is a phenomenal over rate. We could be on for about 20 in the first hour if the spinners continue.

A change in the field as Ben Compton moves to mid wicket for Yuzvendra Chahal.

A shout for LBW, but only from first slip. Bat and pad involved there.

A bigger shout - as the ball skids on and Paterson plays back. Not out.

Guess what? Maiden over. Who will blink first here?

Postpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Sussex 262 & 252-5 v Leicestershire 108

With three games off for rain, we have to be thankful for small mercies.

So let's be grateful that the sunshine has emerged at Hove!

  6. Postpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 226-8

Dane Paterson pushes Aron Nijjar into the off side and the ball is in the air briefly but drops well in front of cover.

Paterson pushes a single to Daniel Bell-Drummond at mid on.

Yuzvendra Chahal is bowling well-flighted balls on a good line and Paterson defends.

    Another maiden over.

  7. new ball

New ballpublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Sussex 262 & 251-5 v Leicestershire 108

80 overs bowled and Leicestershire have no option but to take the second new ball.

Tom Scriven has it in his hands and he and the Foxes need it to perform magic tricks!

  8. Postpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 225-8

Dane Paterson is back to Yuzvendra Chahal, driving the spinner through cover for a single.

One more for Brett Hutton, nudging the ball just in front of Daniel Bell-Drummond at mid on.

We have a slip and a short leg in now but Hutton sees out the over.

  9. 250 runs

up for Sussexpublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Sussex 262 & 250-5 v Leicestershire 108

A single from James Coles is enough to bring up the 250 for Sussex.

Their lead is now up to 404.

How many runs will captain Cheteshwar Pujara want before he thinks about a declaration?

  10. No Salisbury for Foxespublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Sussex 262 & 247-5 v Leicestershire 108

Leicestershire do not have Matt Salisbury in their attack this morning as he is off the field with an injury.

A concern with the One-Day Cup final on the horizon against Hampshire at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

  11. Postpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 222-8

Aron Nijjar notches up another maiden.

Brett Hutton picks up a single, driving Yuzvendra Chahal into the off side.

Notts are very much in "occupation of the crease" mode and have just three runs in seven overs this morning.

  12. Rain returns to Bristolpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Glos 377 v Derbys 261-6

    Remember that 10:45 start time?

Sorry, you can park that now.

    It's raining again. Sigh.

  13. Postpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 220-8

We're already into the fourth over less than ten minutes into the day's play!

Paterson is forward to Nijjar, playing defensively into the off side.

Four maidens in a row for the Kent spinners.

Notts have their first run of the day, pushed into cover off the back foot by Brett Hutton for one.

  14. Not a shorts day!published at 10:40 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Lancashire 132-3 v Middlesex 194

A few Middlesex players are wandering across the outfield from the hotel at Old Trafford towards the dressing rooms, although play is still a long way off.

Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings was on the same tram as myself coming into Old Trafford this morning - and he was certainly the only passenger in shorts.

It is definitely not that kind of day in Manchester!

  15. 50 runs

for James Colespublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Sussex 262 & 243-5 v Leicestershire 108

James Coles goes to his half century in style, as he advances down the wicket and launches Rehan Ahmed for six.

    Lovely shot!

That brings up his 50 off 83 balls - a valuable contribution - a third 50 of the summer - that is taking this match away from Leicestershire.

  16. Postpublished at 10:35 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 219-8

Maiden from Chahal, who beats Brett Hutton outside off.

Spin at both ends as Aron Nijjar is coming on to bowl.

Nijjar is round the wicket and Paterson drives off the back foot for no run.

Turn and bounce in evidence for both spinners here. Another maiden.

  17. Play begins in Hovepublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Sussex 262 & 235-5 v Leicestershire 108

Rehan Ahmed has the ball in hand bowling to James Coles.

He whizzes through five dot balls before Coles picks up a single off the final ball.

One of those dots saw Ahmed make the ball take up off a length - probably not what the Foxes want to see as they trail by 389.

  18. Day three begins at Canterburypublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 219-8

A bit cloudier and cooler here today - but no rain!

This could be a short session.

But Dane Paterson and Brett Hutton will be determined to prove any naysayers wrong.

Both have made first-class 50s before, so why not?

31 needed for a batting bonus point.

Yuzvendra Chahal will bowl to Hutton.

  19. Close to call in Bristolpublished at 10:27 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Gloucestershire 377, Derbyshire 261-6

There's not much at stake for Gloucestershire or Derbyshire, at least in the sense that neither can gain promotion to the top flight.

However, this game is fascinatingly poised after the visitors appeared to be heading for parity and beyond on 132-0.

Since that point, three of the six wickets taken fell to the left arm spin of Zafar Gohar on what looks like a slow, turning surface.

But Derbyshire will be painfully aware that they gave wickets away when set.

Danny Lamb for example scooped a long hop to Chris Dent, and Brooke Guest was run out by a brilliant pick up and throw from Miles Hammond going for an ambitious single.

The wicket of Leus du Plooy is key for both sides. The Derbyshire captain begins on 44 not out, four runs shy of 1100 for the Championship season with an average north of 80.

  20. Play to start at 11am in Cardiffpublished at 10:26 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

    Glamorgan 150-6 v Yorkshire 500

BBC Radio Leeds commentator Jonathan Doidge has just reliably informed us that play will start at 11am in Cardiff as overnight rain has relented.

There are still plans for 96 overs of cricket in the day, too.
