    Worcs 313-8 v Durham

    Durham are almost there.

We believe they will be champions if Worcestershire fail to reach 400 and Ben Allison is the eight wicket to fall as he offers no shot to a ball from Ben Raine which flattens off stump.

Dillon Pennington comes out to join Joe Leach.

  2. Close of play at Lord'spublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 96-1 v Warwicks 315

No more cricket today at Lord's, which will please Middlesex more than Warwickshire as the home side battle to save the match.

Tim Murtagh, who finished with figures of 6-83 in his final appearance at Lord's, will hope he isn't required to bat tomorrow, with Middlesex still 98 runs behind the visitors.

Sam Robson, who is unbeaten on 51, and Jack Davies, on 10, will resume their side's second innings in the morning.

Jaydev Unadkat offers width outside off and Luis Reece crashes the ball through cover off the back foot for four.

A rare loose ball from the left armer.

Sean Hunt has a nightmare over at the other end, costing 12 runs and taking Derbyshire to 50 in 12 overs.

His third delivery is steered safely wide of the slips and down to third man for four by Harry Came.

Four more runs come off a Sean Hunt no ball, clipped away through square leg on the front foot.

  4. Close of play at the Ovalpublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 158-6 v Northants

The weather has got in the way again, sadly.

But we had some compelling cricket to watch here today.

A dramatic turnaround for Surrey, who won a mini session of play in style after rain delayed play for nearly two hours this afternoon.

Jamie Overton came in with Surrey reeling on 79-6 and the ball cutting back sharply off the seam for the Northants attack.

He scored a free-wheeling half century off 52 balls to take Surrey to within 200 of the Northants first innings.

But he could have been out on 40 when he miscued a pull to Ben Sanderson, running into fine leg.

Ben Foakes is unbeaten on 33.

    Derby 35-0 v Sussex 100

Jaydev Unadkat is bowling to four slips - and Sussex have no option other than all out attack after a very low first innings score.

His fifth ball is a fuller delivery and driven through long off by Harry Came for four.

Sean Hunt comes into the attack for Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

He's playing his first Championship game since May and his third ball is driven down the ground by Luis Reece for three.

Harry Came drives the last ball of the over firmly down the ground but it slows up before it can reach the ropes and he's restricted to two.

  6. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hampshire 322-8

When Hampshire were 150-5 at lunch, everything seemed to be going according to plan for Essex.

Bowl them out, enforce the follow-on and then try to press on for a victory to, hopefully, close the gap on leaders Surrey ahead of the final round of matches.

Tom Prest had other ideas and hit a maiden first-class century, reaching 102 not out before bad light and rain ended play for the day.

Only three sessions left - Essex are 125 runs ahead and need the final bowling point before deciding whether to push for quick runs to try and set Hampshire a target.

    Leics 233 v Yorks 155 & 90-0

It's frustration for the Foxes bowlers as Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth and Finley Bean steer the visitors into the lead.

Lyth is 40 not out, with Bean on 32 and they've now wiped out that first-innings deficit without losing a wicket.

Still 19 overs scheduled for tonight as Leicestershire renew their efforts to find a way through.

  8. wicket

    WICKET D'Oliveira b Parkinson 63published at 17:22 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Worcs 301-7 v Durham

A classic leg-break from Matt Parkinson and Brett D'Oliveira's innings is over.

It pitched on middle and leg and turned away to hit off stump, with the Worcestershire batter rooted in his crease.

A good innings for his side but Durham move ever closer towards the Division Two title.

  9. Second batting point for Pearspublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Worcs 301-6 v Durham

Ben Allison flashes at a wide ball from Paul Coughlin.

It's an unconvincing shot but flies safely down to third man for a single as the Worcestershire total passes 300.

In theory, there are 17 overs remaining.

    Derbyshire 24-0 v Sussex 100

We've lost a lot of time in this game but it's still moving along rather quickly.

Four wickets each for Sam Conners and Zak Chappell as Sussex were routed in just 36.2 overs.

No early breakthroughs in the Derbyshire innings, though Harry Came does play and miss Jaydev Unadkat outside the off stump.

Incredibly, this is already the highest partnership of a low scoring match to date.

    Worcs 297-6 v Durham

Paul Coughlin digs one in short and Ben Allison helps it on its way to backward square leg for four.

The same tactic three balls later produces the same result and Worcestershire are three runs away from their second batting point.

    Leicestershire 233 v Yorkshire 155 & 67-0

Steady start for the Tykes, who have taken their first wicket partnership beyond 50 after starting their second innings trailing Leicestershire by 78.

Just 11 runs behind now on 67-0.

  13. Stumps at Old Traffordpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Lancs 225-6 v Notts

A familiar scene at Old Trafford this week... it's grey, wet and the covers are on.

Still, we did at least get just over two sessions of cricket today!

All being well, Lancashire will resume in the morning at 225-6, although it's hard to see how this game can develop into anything more than a battle for bonus points.

  14. Bad light stops play at the Ovalpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 158-6 v Northants 357

Now the light has spoiled the party once more.

Surrey have scored 67 runs in that truncated session and Northants will rue that missed chance to catch Jamie Overton at fine leg when the hard-hitting number eight batter was on 40.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Jamie Overtonpublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 158-6 v Northants 357

Jamie Overton completes a 52-ball half century with a back foot nudge to square leg off Jack White for one.

A counterattacking gem of an innings which began with Surrey reeling on 79-6.

  16. What if.......published at 17:08 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Essex 447-9 dec v Hampshire 322-8

    Still no resumption at Chelmsford.

We are now entering the territory of what ifs.

What if Essex take one wicket for a third bowling point and the game ends in a draw?

In that case, Essex would take 11 points from the game and, having started 18 behind Surrey, must hope Northamptonshire can do them a favour and win at The Oval - or at the very least, in the event of a draw there too, deny them batting points.

  17. dropped catch

Jamie Overton dropped on 40published at 17:07 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 157-6 v Northants 357

Jamie Overton pulls a short ball from Luke Procter and Ben Sanderson spills a chance at fine leg.

That could be costly given the scoring rate.

The third ball of the over is pulled fine for four.

Another four steered through third man off the back foot brings up Surrey's 150 in the 52nd over.

Surrey are racing along here and making light of their top order collapse.

Four byes and a single bye complete an expensive over, costing 15 runs.

  18. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Lord'spublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Middlesex 121 & 96-1 v Warwicks 315

Well, no sooner had Sam Robson reached his 50 than the inevitable happened - a spot of rain, couple with deteriorating light, prompts the umpires to halt play.

Jack Davies has moved on to 10, with Robson on 51 and Middlesex have brought the deficit down to double figures for the loss of Mark Stoneman.

They won't be overly sorry to retreat to the dressing room, unlike the Warwickshire players who have propelled their side into a strong position to push for victory.

    Middlesex 121 & 92-1 v Warwicks 315

Sam Robson (Middlesex)Image source, Rex Features

That's a hard-earned half-century for Sam Robson, coming up from 88 balls as he cuts Chris Rushworth away to the fence.

Robson's been past 50 five times now this season - and remains the only Middlesex player to register a hundred in the Championship. A second for the long-serving opener wouldn't go amiss from the home side's point of view...

  20. Postpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 21 September 2023

    Surrey 142-6 v Northants 347

Jamie Overton is really hitting his straps here, as he seizes on width from Ben Sanderson and flays the ball away through backward point for four.

What a turnaround after resuming on 91-6.
