"Tammy Beaumont's innings, the first double-century in England women's cricket, put England into a decent position but some loose bowling at the start of the innings eased all pressure on Australia..." is the view of my colleague Ffion Wynne in her report of day three.

  2. 'Pretty special'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

More from Tammy Beaumont on her brilliant double hundred: "To do it in an England, it is pretty special, the highest score I have in an England shirt against best team in the world and I hope it goes down in the books.

"Potentially, I was icing my knee so didn't watch. We want to get the ball swinging and we just have to club together and come back tomorrow.

"I'm still confident. There's two days to go and plenty of runs and wickets to be taken. The morning session is key and we will try our best to chase it the total."

I'll always be a Tammy Beaumont fan but even more so today. She has set the bar really high for this Test side.

  4. 'I guess I just had a day out!'published at 19:06 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

England's batter Tammy Beaumont speaking to TMS: "I guess I just had a day out. Even on that review I was really confident. What a day!

"No I wasn't aware of that milestone, that's why I didn't want to celebrate it and we still needed runs. It's a great accolade to have but for me it was about getting as close to the Aussies score as possible.

"Tahlia McGrath played well. Especially that spell after tea and got the ball moving around a bit and you can't complain too much and it was pretty close on the turn of innings.

"I had a lot of help from the skipper, Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt. They have known me for so long and know when I need a kick up the bum and keep going. The team always scores quickly when Scriver-Brunt is at the crease and Danni Wyatt, we could have taken the game away from Australians. It's always nice to bat with your best mates."

It'll take a little bit of time to reflect that it has been a monumental effort from Tammy Beaumont but she will know that it is only half of the job.

She took some time after her innings and then came back to be in the group, it shows you she just wants to be part of the game.

Tammy Beaumont's parents were incredibly proud of their daughter's achievements when interviewed, even if the England batter later claimed her father would prefer if she played less flamboyantly.

"I don't know what my dad would have said about me playing those ramp shots!" she told TMS. "He loves a traditional knock, especially on 195. But today I had something in my brain, I felt really clear and calm."

More from Australia's Ash Gardner on how the extra day could setup the match: "It's going to be interesting. There is so much time left in the game. 180 overs is a very long time. We're thinking small at the moment and not thinking about the result just yet.

"I think for me being able to utilise drift more often than not and getting up and over the ball. I was lucky with Sciver-Brunt's wicket. Sometimes you need luck on your side.

"The best fielding team wins. It shows in a Test match you need to stay switched on for long periods and fielding is a big period of that. You saw Brown save a lot of runs. We fielded a lot better today than we did yesterday."

I think England are tired as well, they don't play a lot of Test cricket but I did think she will go to Sophie Ecclestone earlier and Australia have just ran away with it.

  9. Postpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

I don't think you can argue with Ash Gardner, really, about the state of the game. A little bit of Aussie kidology in there as well with the "ball staying low" claim. Just to sow the seed.

  10. 'We have the upper hand'published at 18:46 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

Australia's all-rounder Ash Gardner speaking to TMS: "I'd say we have the upper hand just a little bit. I think in the second innings for the English girls it's going to be pretty hard to bat on. We've seen the odd ball stay pretty low which is kind of what we expect in a Test match wicket. I think for us the key is to play nice and straight and look to get on the front foot.

"I think it's a wicket where if you miss the stumps it's a free hit and Tammy showed that. Whenever we missed the wickets she hit the ball to the boundary. On the flip side we have to make sure we capitalise on that and making sure we are relentless in our line and length.

"The new ball swings, the ball is hard so it's the best time to be bat. When the ball gets soft it's hard to bat and hit it where you want it."

  11. 'Beaumont has a huge desire to win'published at 18:42 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

    Georgia Elwiss
England all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

Tammy Beaumont often fields at short leg and she just doesn't shut up! We've played against each other in some internal games, and she's obviously doing her job because she gets in your head.

She lets you know if you're not scoring quickly enough or anything like that.

She is hugely competitive and has a huge desire to win. She is a big team player.

The batting is arguably the best i have ever seen, it was so special for Tammy Beaumont because she has been dropped previously, she really guided that and breaking that record was amazing. She didn't even look flustered and that was one of the best innings I've ever seen. England will owe her a lot for those runs. For me, that middle order could have added more and England could have easily got a 50-run lead.

Tammy Beaumont has just done a flash interview so we should hear her thoughts on that historic innings shortly.

We've just given the momentum to Australia and I'm frustrated for England and they will have to come back better tomorrow.

  15. 'England wasted the new ball'published at 18:36 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Former England batter on BBC Test Match Special

England completely wasted that new ball, the opportunity was then and England sprayed the new ball and it wasn't just one bowler, it was all three of them. It absolutely let Australia back into the game and now they have a lead.

England need to speak to their bowlers here, it only was in control when the spinners, Knight and Ecclestone, came on.

England have to reflect on that bowling and turn it around. They will need to turn it around and bring that back.

Australia will go back feeling comfortable.

  16. Postpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

There is still a long way to go in this Test match - two more days in fact.

England will need to be much improved with the ball tomorrow, though.

  17. 'Beaumont's bread and butter'published at 18:32 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

    Georgia Elwiss
England all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

Tammy Beaumont is the sort of person that sees something and says 'well, if you can do that, I can do that' and that is brilliant to have.

She is genuinely excited to score runs and wants to show off what she can do. Having someone like that at the top of the order, we've spoke about how England want to play this aggressive style, but actually Tammy doesn't necessarily play that naturally. She is more a timer of the ball but she's got all the shots and she has showcased them beautifully over the course of this innings.

She is watchful and apart from the one that Australia didn't review it's been quite chanceless.

It was a fantastic innings and it has just been her bread and butter.

  18. Postpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

A slipshod display from England's bowlers in the evening, in all honesty. But that shouldn't take away anything from a record-breaking double hundred by Tammy Beaumont.

    That is stumps.

    Australia lead by 92 runs.
