  1. Aus 126-5published at 24 overs

    Target 269 (DLS)

England are into the all-rounders now, but there's still plenty of talent in Ash Gardner and Annabel Sutherland at the crease and then Georgia Wareham, Jess Jonassen and Alana King in the shed.

Sutherland shows her class immediately with a gorgeous drive down the ground. It's a beautiful shot.

Massive wicket! England are well and truly on top now.

Kate Cross was often used in the middle orders because of Katherine Sciver-Brunt and Anya Shrubsole and that familiarity is bringing wickets today.

It is two in four balls for the Lancashire bowler as Beth Mooney drives straight to Sophie Ecclestone at mid-off.

The crowd are really into it now.

  5. Aus 120-4published at 23 overs

Charlie Dean continues and she concedes six off the over.

The run-rate is creeping up. It's at 7.15 now.

    Thanks Sam.

I was preparing to say we're going to get another nail-biter, but that wicket changes things.

England are on top, but there is a lot of batting to come.

Uh oh. Let's hope that's something and nothing because this game is bubbling up nicely!

To take you through to its conclusion, it's over to Callum Matthews.

Ash Gardner is in at six and gets off the mark with a single but England won't mind too much about that.

They've got the big wicket of Ellyse Perry and have their noses in front again in this contest.

For the second innings in a row, Perry not able to convert a 50 into a 100. The wobble seam from Kate Cross, Alice Capsey takes the catch comfortably. Australia have won the Ashes, but there's still plenty to play for for England.

    Perry c Capsey b Cross 53 (Aus 113-4)

    HUGE WICKET!

The bowling change works as Ellyse Perry tries to work the ball to leg, gets a leading edge and the ball goes high into the off side.

Alice Capsey is underneath at point and makes no mistake.

Kate Cross has made the key breakthrough!

England do make a bowling change but it is Kate Cross rather than Sophie Ecclestone who comes into the attack.

If I was England, I would get Sophie Ecclestone on to try and get one more wicket and really put pressure on Australia.

  14. 6 runs

50 for Ellyse Perrypublished at 21 overs

    Aus 112-3

Charlie Dean continues her spell and a slight misfield from Tammy Beaumont combined with some very good running allows Beth Mooney two to deep point.

Beaumont redeems herself with a good stop next ball before the over is extended by a no-ball from Dean.

Free hit... and Ellyse Perry smashes it over long-on for six! That takes the Australia all-rounder to her half-century from 55 balls.

A very costly no-ball from Dean. An over that looked like it would only cost five ends up going for 12.

Three singles from those four balls and that takes Australia up to 100.

Here they come. Alice Capsey has four balls left in the over she began before the rain delay.

Once they're bowled, we definitely get a result one way or the other.

Which side benefits from a slightly shortened game then?

I guess Australia, with seven wickets remaining, can go that bit harder with fewer overs in which to be bowled out?

If England can get a quick wicket, though...

  19. Australia set revised target of 269published at 18:44 British Summer Time 18 July 2023

The England players are out warming up. It still looks pretty dark at Taunton but as long as it stays dry, that's the main thing.

When play does get back under way, Australia will need another 172 runs from 148 balls (DLS).

    Excellent news!

That means we're 10 minutes away from play resuming, more than enough to watch England's players playing 'who's who?'
