    Target 371

Interesting shot from Ben Duckett as he tries to shovel the ball from well outside off into the leg side.

It must be almost instinct now - he's so used to that controlled pull being the shot to play every ball as Australia's bowlers bang it in.

Can we please just collapse and get this over with, the hope is absolutely killing me.

    Mark in London

    That's the spirit.

  3. Eng 159-4published at 41.1 overs

    Target 371

Josh Hazlewood is into the attack and Ben Duckett pulls his first ball away for four.

Steve Smith was the fielder in the deep but didn't pick it up at all. It wasn't that far away from him.

The crowds at Lord's are on their feet, they know how much this means. The word Headingley is going through everyone's mind. Can Stokes replicate that?

  5. 50 runs

50 for Ben Stokespublished at 41 overs

    Eng 155-4

More big cheers from the Lord's crowd as Ben Stokes moves to his 29th Test fifty with a single guided out to deep backward square.

It's been a vital and composed knock from the England skipper to keep their slim hopes of victory alive.

Groundstaff will be giving Starc a glare after he's ripped that out.

  7. Eng 153-4published at 40.3 overs

    Target 371

Even when he's not bowling, Mitchell Starc is making an impact.

This time it is on the Lord's outfield as he takes a big chunk out of it as he slides to cut off a pull shot from Ben Stokes.

Change of bowling. Cameron Green comes into the attack and it is safe to assume there won't be too many full deliveries from the big all-rounder.

England have played nicely this morning, there's no real alarms. There's been some cracking shots that the Aussies have fielded nicely.

  11. Eng 150-4published at 40 overs

    Stokes 47, Duckett 67

Mitchell Starc continues his spell and tests out the middle of the pitch again, particularly when Ben Duckett is on strike.

The England opener pulls the last delivery of the over firmly square, it takes a good stop to deny him a boundary.

A single takes England to 150, though, and there are big cheers of encouragement for the home side as they reach another milestone.

Serious question - why hasn't Sam Curran played a Test in the bazball era? He's quicker than Robinson, offers left-arm variety and would bat 8 easily...

    Anon

It is interesting that he has had a go yet under Stokes and McCullum, Anon.

I'm not sure he's quicker than Ollie Robinson, though. Much for muchness, I reckon, and Robinson's Test average is significantly better.

England are rotating the strike well here. This partnership is growing and they're ticking away nicely.

  15. 100 runs

    Eng 147-4published at 39 overs

Smart, simple cricket from Bens Duckett and Stokes as they nudge and nurdle for singles from the first four balls of the Pat Cummins over.

Hold that thought... Stokes advances down the pitch, changes his mind about going for the big shot but a thick outside edge shoots past gully for four!

That boundary brings up the century stand for the fifth wicket.

Still a long, long way to go for England and Mitchell Starc seems to be finding his rhythm.

Mitchell Starc and Ben Stokes share a joke at the end of the over. It is all very relaxed out there considering the circumstances.
