Former England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Somerset look like they have got so much confidence. Rightly so. They are winning games and winning games they shouldn’t. They didn’t put a massive total on the board at the halfway stage and Surrey, with the batters they have got, should have knocked that off, but Somerset found a way to keep taking regular wickets.

I’m really impressed with Somerset and I’m going to go Somerset to win.

Ref Glenn Maxwell 18.15, Sorry Glenn, but it's not an upset to see Somerset in the final. They've won 12 of their group matches and only lost 2! I don't believe that's been done before in the T20 blast?! Surely they should be a favourite?! Up the Wyverns!

  4. 'Nice to return the favour'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

Somerset paceman Craig Overton speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: "Jamie got me out three or four weeks ago Nice to return the favour.

"The power play set us up, we got the three big batters and then kept taking wickets.

"We are playing well, everyone knows their roles, we know what to do and we just have to win one more."

  5. 'There are areas we need to improve' - Harmerpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

Essex beat Hampshire by five wickets in the first semi-final. Here's what skipper Simon Harmer had to say.

"Matt Critchley batted superbly and the six off the first ball of the last over really took the pressure off. When I went down to face I just took a risk and banked on him bowling a slower ball and luckily he did and I connected.

"We had our slowest start of the comp with the bat but felt we were in the mix after the rain break, chasing a smallish total. Then we lost some wickets which set us back but Critch and Daniel Sams batted brilliantly, striking it from ball one. Dan's innings was huge for us.

"It's great to be in the final but there are still areas we need to improve. We dropped a couple of catches late on and they can cost you, and our bowlers didn't quite hit their lengths early on but I thought we were very good through the middle of the innings.

"We have batters playing well and then you look at Adam Rossington and what he is capable of and he has had a quiet tournament so far and is due a score."

  6. Teams and toss for finalpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    Essex v Somerset (start 18.45)

Essex skipper Simon Harmer wins the toss and decides to bowl first as they did in their semi-final against last year's winners Hampshire.

They are unchanged, while Somerset bring in Kasey Aldridge as an extra seamer in place of Shoaib Bashir, who did not bowl in their semi-final win over Surrey.

Essex: Rossington, Lawrence, Pepper, Das, Waler, Critchley, Sams, Harmer, Snater, Beard, Cook.

Somerset: Smeed, Banton, Kohler-Cadmore, Abell, Dickson, Gregory, Green, C Overton, Henry, Aldridge, Sodhi.

    Somerset 142-7 v Surrey 118

Surrey's T20 form of late hasn't been great - they lost three group games in a row before beating Lancashire in the quarter-finals.

But they will surely feel that was an opportunity wasted after restricting Somerset to a relatively modest total from their 19 overs following a delayed start.

Craig Overton, Matt Henry and Ben Green took three wickets each - Green now has 30 in the competition - and Surrey left 13 balls of their innings unused.

So the waiting goes on for the 2003 winners, who have failed to lift the trophy again in the 20 seasons since then.

In the end it came down to who could navigate this difficult surface and Somerset were able to make some ugly runs and that made the difference.

Outstanding from Somerset! Some spectacular fielding and some very very good bowling. They got the early wickets they needed and they just kept taking more and more.

Brilliant effort from Somerset to defend that on this ground. Their attack worked so well together, that is what makes a successful T20 side, even if your batters don't come off.

Fair to say it is an upset to see these two sides into the final.

We are set for an exciting final.

How many times have we seen that in this innings?

Sean Abbott pulls a ball from Matt Henry, but Will Smeed is again in position at square leg to take his third catch and the Aussie goes for nine.

Somerset win - their 14th in 16 T20 games this season - and reach the T20 final for the sixth time.

They've only won one of the previous five - how will they fare against Essex later on?

  12. 'Dilemma for final pair'published at 18:10 British Summer Time 15 July 2023

    Mark Davis
Former Somerset seamer on BBC Radio Somerset

Surrey's last pair face a real dilemma here. Does Sean Abbott think we knock it around for a couple of overs to try and take it to the wire?

Or does he start trying to launch it now? Because you can't leave it too long, sixes have not been easy to hit and the wicket is slowing up.

You can only admire Somerset's resolve and self-belief.

Gus Atkinson flicks Ben Green fine for four and takes a single to keep the strike.

Surrey need 28 from 18 balls - doable, but they have only one wicket left.

Fortuitous four for Sean Abbott off Matt Henry as it flies away off the toe end of the bat. Surrey's score reaches three figures.

But there goes another one as Tom Curran pulls to Tom Abell at mid-wicket. He swishes the bat in frustration before departing.
