I'm off to have a lie-down after that - far too much cricketing excitement over the last couple of days!

We'll be back on Friday for Scotland's next game against UAE, but for now here's a lovely picture of Richie Berrington giving match-winner Michael Leask a well deserved hug.

  2. 'What a knock by Leasky'published at 16:17 British Summer Time 21 June 2023

Scotland beat Ireland by one wicket (Ireland 286-8 v Scotland 289-9)

Scotland captain Richie Berrington has a giant grin on his face as he gives his thoughts to Sky Sports:

"What a game of cricket. We're obviously delighted to get over the line there. We had belief all the way through - losing wickets in the middle made it a bit tougher, but what an exceptional knock by Leasky to see us home.

"It's always a big game when Scotland take on Ireland, and delighted to start things off with a win.

"We've had a really good couple of weeks prep, we've got a good group of players and staff - we'll look to build on this and keep growing as the tournament goes on. It was very tense towards the end there.

"We couldn't have asked for a better start. Brandon McMullen was superb with the new ball. He's been delivering for us since he started playing, and he's just going to keep getting better. He's wasn't feeling too well, but he managed to get back on the field, and show the character he has."

  4. 'We'll lick our wounds and come back'published at 16:09 British Summer Time 21 June 2023

Scotland beat Ireland by one wicket (Ireland 286-8 v Scotland 289-9)

That loss leaves Ireland's hopes of making the Super Six stages hanging by a thread.

Dejected captain Andrew Balbirnie has been talking to Sky Sports:

"The first 10 overs of our batting, and the last ten overs of our fielding was where the game was won and lost. You have to give credit to how Leask played. That was a high quality innings and took the game away from us.

"We'll lick our wounds and try to go again. The plans were clear from the guys, I can't be too critical of the bowlers. We'll have a look back and see where we can come back in the next game.

"Until you're out of the competition, you believe you can get through. It's an uphill battle from here, but I'm sure the guys will be up to the task."

  5. 'This badge means so much to me' - Leaskpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 21 June 2023

Scotland beat Ireland by one wicket (Ireland 286-8 v Scotland 289-9)

Michael Alexander Leask, you've done your country proud.

89 not out from just 61 balls. Nine fours, four sixes. Ice in his veins.

Unsurprisingly, he is named the Player of the Match.

"I don't think I can put it into words right now," he said, speaking to Sky Sports. "This badge means so much to me, and I'm glad I can repay the team.

"We've had a few tough days against Ireland, and to hit the winning runs makes it even more special.

"We've got a team that bats very deep. I've got a lot of belief in my own ability, and it was a case of if I stayed there for as long as possible we had a chance, and the guys coming in are great ball strikers.

"[Mark Watt] is a fantastic performer. He played a blinder of an innings and took some of the pressure off.

"We've got a great bunch of lads. We're going to take games deep and hopefully go all the way [to the World Cup]."
