Sri Lanka beat Scotland by 82 runs

    That's all from me today.

A slightly disappointing result for Scotland, who would have fancied their chances at the half-way stage, having bowled Sri Lanka out for 245.

They go into the Super Six stage now, with games against West Indies, Zimbabwe and Netherlands on 1 July, 4 July, and 6 July, respectively.

Realistically, Richie Berrington's side need at least two wins, and a favour or two elsewhere for them to reach the World Cup.

  2. 'We saw the value of having wickets in hand'published at 14:25 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

Sri Lanka beat Scotland by 82 runs

Scotland captain Richie Berrington on Sky Sports: "We got a couple of wickets early on and maybe didn't capitalise on that," he said.

"It was a fantastic effort in the last 15 [overs] to bowl them out for under 250. We knew we had to be smart with our fields. We were up with the rate the whole way through.

"It's obviously disappointing to fall short, but we've just seen the value of having wickets in hand. We just need to look to come back strong for the next game."

SRI LANKA WIN 82 RUNSpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 27 June 2023

    Sri Lanka 245 v Scotland 163

Chris Greaves looks to pinch a single to keep the strike, but Alasdair Evans can't make his ground.

That's the tenth wicket, and Scotland are well beaten despite that ninth-wicket partnership between Greaves and Chris Sole.

  4. 50 runs

for Chris Greavespublished at 28.5 overs

    Scotland 164-9 (target 246)

Chris Greaves lets out his frustration with a powerful slog sweep through cow corner for four.

That's 50 for the Scotland allrounder, the first time an opposition batter has reached that milestone against Sri Lanka in this tournament.

He goes to the same shot again, and picks up four more.

  5. wicket

WICKET Sole run out 17published at 28.3 overs

    Scotland 156-9 (target 246)

Just when this pair were ticking along nicely, they throw it away.

Chris Greaves turns one around the corner, and it's an easy single, but Greaves inexplicably tries to come back for two.

Chris Sole never looks like making his ground and is run out by yards.

  6. dropped catch

Sole dropped on 16published at 28.2 overs

    Scotland 155-8 (target 246)

Chris Sole smashes one back at Dhananjaya de Silva, and the bowler gets a hand to it, but it goes to ground.

    Scotland 153-8 (target 246)

Lahiru Kumara is back into the attack for Sri Lanka - the first time we've seen seam up in a while.

Chris Greaves carves a short and wide delivery away through point for four to bring up Scotland's 150, and the 50 partnership.

  8. Postpublished at 27 overs

    Scotland 147-8 (target 246)

Chris Sole gets a thick outside edge past the keeper for four, before some sharp running adds further useful runs.

Kasun Rajitha has a wild shy at the stumps which allows the Scottish pair to take an overthrow.

    Scotland 139-8 (target 246)

Chris Greaves isn't just going to block out Maheesh Theekshana's final over.

He belts a six over midwicket, before he slaps the next delivery over the bowler's head for four more.

  10. Postpublished at 25 overs

    Scotland 127-8 (target 246)

    Hello, Chris Sole!

He takes Wanindu Hasaranga inside-out over extra cover for four, and this is now the highest partnership of the innings.

    They've added 27 in 3.4 overs.

  11. Postpublished at 24 overs

    Scotland 121-8 (target 246)

Chris Greaves and Chris Sole continue to tick along.

It's not only the points from this stage that carry forward, but net run-rate too, so the more runs Scotland can add, the better.

  12. Postpublished at 23 overs

    Scotland 116-8 (target 246)

Chris Greaves reverse-sweeps for four, takes two down the ground, before going over mid-off for four more.

A productive over, which would be promising for Scotland if they weren't eight down.

  13. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 22.1 overs

    Scotland 106-8 (target 246)

Chris Greaves is going to play his shots, and why not?

A big slog-sweep sails for six.

  14. wicket

WICKET Jarvis lbw b Theekshana 0published at 21.2 overs

    Scotland 100-8 (target 246)

    That's absolutely stone dead.

Jack Jarvis plays all around his front pad, and Maheesh Theekshana knows that's out.

Scotland have had no answers to Sri Lanka's spinners, and are sliding towards a comprehensive defeat.

  15. wicket

WICKET Watt lbw b Hasarangapublished at 20.5 overs

    Scotland 99-7 (target 246)

Mark Watt was playing Wanindu Hasaranga fairly well, but he's been given out by umpire Bongani Jele.

There's a couple of question marks on impact and height, for mine.

No DRS before the Super Six stages though, so Watt has to go.

Jack Jarvis is the new man to join Chris Greaves.

  16. Postpublished at 20 overs

    Scotland 93-6 (target 246)

Two from Maheesh Theekshana's seventh over.

    Steady away.

  17. Postpublished at 19 overs

    Scotland 91-6 (target 246)

    Shot.

Mark Watt skips down to Wanindu Hasaranga, and slaps it through cover for four.

Seven off the over, as Scotland consolidate following that cluster of wickets.

  18. Postpublished at 17 overs

    Scotland 80-6 (target 246)

Six off Wanindu Hasaranga's second over.

They need to steady the ship now.

  19. Postpublished at 16.2 overs

    Scotland 78-6 (target 246)

A few more of these, please.

Chris Greaves gets down on one knee and sweeps hard through square leg for four.

  20. wicket

WICKET Leask lbw b Shanakapublished at 15.6 overs

    Scotland (target 246)

Michael Leask plays out five dots from the Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanka, but is then trapped lbw.

That's the big wicket - Scotland's hopes are fading fast.
