That's about the closest McMullen has come to losing his wicket. Swing and a miss against Holder. It skims over the top of the bails and Shai Hope produces a brilliant diving take.

Scotland need 83 from 144 balls. That's doable. Very doable.

  3. 50 runs

    50published at 25 overs

    Scotland 94-1 (target 182) v West Indies

He goes big for the half-century! Hats off to Brandon McMullen!

With a wicket falling in the very first delivery of the innings, McMullen needed to come in and steady the ship. He's produced when it matters, driving over mid-off and bouncing once before hitting the rope.

The television coverage is replaying McMullen's six from earlier. It really was filthy.

The camera cuts back to him, and he's having a little dance to Turn Down For What by Lil John and DJ Snake. Coolness personified.

  4. Postpublished at 24 overs

    Scotland 86-1 (target 182) v West Indies

A stifled appeal from Jason Holder, as he re-enters the bowling attack. Shai Hope isn't convinced behind the stumps.

Jason, I hate to be that guy but... that hit the face of the bat. The slow-mo confirms it. Thank god they didn't review.

McMullen, on 49, thinks about a quick single on the final ball. He's sent back by Matthew Cross. That's a real friend.

  5. Holder celebrates McBride's wicketpublished at 23 overs

    Scotland 82-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Not to bring the vibe down, but here's a nice celebration shot of the West Indians. That was Chris McBride falling to Jason Holder (left) - with the first ball of the innings.

Fair to say Scotland have responded well.

  6. Postpublished at 22 overs

    Scotland 80-1 (target 182) v West Indies

McMullen is tip-toeing towards that 50. Akeal Hosein is trying to tempt him into the big shot, but McMullen is showing good maturity. He won't do anything silly. Just a quick single.

Matthew Cross has been a little slower in his run rate. but he's also faced 20-odd fewer balls than McMullen.

  7. Postpublished at 20 overs

    Scotland 75-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Back underway as my brew cools down. Just two off that over from Kevin Sinclair. Akeal Hosein comes on the other end.. three off that.

The good news for Scotland is - if they were to lose a wicket - Richie Berrington and Michael Leask are in terrific batting form, as is spinner Mark Watt.

Add to that, George Munsey is back from illness and expected to be the next man in.

  8. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 18 overs

    Scotland 70-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Another boundary for McMullen. There's shouts of 'CATCH HIM!' but it would have been super-human.

The number three bends his back knee, gets under it enough and muscles it past short mid-wicket.

Time for drinks. I'm off for a cuppa.

  9. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 17 overs

    Scotland 65-1 (target 182) v West Indies

McMullen goes big. Very big. He walks down the wicket to Alzarri Joseph and puts it - BANG - over the top of his head. That is a confident stroke. The first six of Scotland's innings!

  10. Scotland need 125 to winpublished at 16 overs

    Scotland 57-1 (target 182) v West Indies

It's worth remembering that the West Indies need to win this game. If not, they cannot qualify for the 2023 World Cup - the first time World Cup in history that wouldn't feature the West Indies.

As for Scotland, they would still need to beat Zimbabwe and the Netherlands to qualify - both very tough asks.

And that's assuming they win today! Still a long way to go. That's the third over without a boundary.

  11. Postpublished at 13 overs

    Scotland 53-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Four more for Brandon McMullen - the man given a reprieve by poor West Indian fielding! He top edges a short ball from Romario Shepherd and Shai Hope can only watch it loop over his head.

That aforementioned missed catch was the 13th of the tournament for the West Indies.

  12. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 12 overs

    Scotland 48-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Oh! That was a chance for the West Indies. Brandon McMullen swept across Akeal Hosein's ball but didn't quite get the direction he wanted.

Instead, it flew to Kyle Mayers but he wasn't able to hold onto the ball. That's not the first WI drop this tournament. I'll be nice - that was a hard catch to take.

  13. Postpublished at 10 overs

    Scotland 40-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Scotland are picking their moments. Kyle Mayers offers Brandon McMullen something a little wider and Brando - the 'Gunfather' - throws his hands through it, thrashing it over cover for four.

  14. Postpublished at 9 overs

    Scotland 34-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Romario Shepherd is the next man on for a spell, and immediately Scotland sense runs. They try a quick single, and just about get away with it, before Brandon McMullen launches a drive over the covers.

Authoritative, he smacks it over the head of mid-off comfortably.

  15. Postpublished at 8 overs

    Scotland 27-1 (target 182) v West Indies

West Indies change the bowling attack after just seven overs. Kyle Mayers comes in, and he's getting a good bit of swing on it.

The fourth ball is interesting. He caught Matthew Cross awkwardly on the pad, and there's an appeal from Mayers. But there's a fairly loud inside edge.

I don't want to jinx it, but this pair look fairly untroubled so far. If they can eat significantly into that 182 target, Scotland will be delighted.

  16. Clinical Crosspublished at 6 overs

    Scotland 26-1 (target 182) v West Indies

An extra fielder has gone across to the leg-side - not that Matthew Cross minds. He goes aerially and still manages to pick the gap, finding the rope. Shot.

Next ball... same again! Punishing Alzarri Joseph for the straighter delivery.

  17. Postpublished at 5 overs

    Scotland 17-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Well, that's what you have to do after the early wicket. Don't take any risks. Play it nice and safe. Trust that the runs will come.

And here comes four of them. Matthew Cross waits for the slightly looser ball, throws his hands through it, opening the face of the bat. All the way to the boundary.

Then, there's a misfield and Scotland pick up two runs. Johnson Charles is the culprit. Scotland should be sharp to that. This WI team are not known for their fielding.

  18. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Scotland 8-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Brandon McMullen is a funny one, as well. He has 19 from three games in this competition. In the other game, he scored a massive 136 against Oman.

With that early loss of McBride, Scotland need him to have a solid innings.

He's happy to let a couple from Alzarri Joseph fly past his off-stump. Run rate won't be the problem.

  19. McBride's woespublished at 2 overs

    Scotland 7-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Oh, Chris McBride. It wasn't really your day, was it?

He just about took the catch of Nicholas Pooran, and then spilled Akeal Hosein on the boundary. His two overs cost Scotland 17 runs for no wickets.

His form in this tournament has been patchy, too. He opened with 56 against Ireland, before scoring 5 against the UAE and 0 against Oman. He rallied with 29 against Sri Lanka, but a golden duck today. Disappointing.

The good news is, West Indies haven't defended a total less than 200 in the last five years.

  20. wicket

WICKET McBride c Sinclair b Holder 0published at 0.1 overs

    Scotland 0-1 (target 182) v West Indies

Here we go! Scotland's batting attack is about to get underway. Chris McBride and Matthew Cross are up first, and they just need to take the sting out of the new ball.

So far in this tournament, that opening pair has failed to impress. Will today be different?

No. Chris McBride is out first ball. He plays a low full toss on leg stump straight to midwicket.

Come on Brandon McMullen. Time to shine again.
