SCOTLAND BEAT ZIMBABWE BY 31 RUNS

    What a performance from Scotland.

Contributions from Matthew Cross, Brandon McMullen, Michael Leask and Mark Watt took Scotland to 234-8 from their 50 overs, and from there, the bowlers took centre stage.

On to Thursday then, where Richie Berrington's side meet the Netherlands knowing that a win will take them to India in the autumn.

    See you then!

SCOTLAND BEAT ZIMBABWE BY 31 RUNS

Richie Berrington was full of praise for Scotland's bowling attack there, and they have indeed shone - a graphic on the TV coverage earlier showed that Scotland have the second best bowling performance of the teams in this qualifying tournament, behind only Sri Lanka.

Their attack has so much variation - the pace of Sole, the accuracy and swing of McMullen, the experience and change-ups of Sharif, and then the high-quality spin options that Watt and Greaves bring.

There's no wonder teams have struggled when there's no real let-up.

  4. 'Our bowlers have been fantastic' - Berringtonpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 4 July 2023

SCOTLAND BEAT ZIMBABWE BY 31 RUNS

Scotland captain Richie Berrington on Sky Sports:

"Incredibly proud of the lads today. To show the fight that we did - we knew early wickets would be key. Our bowlers have been fantastic throughout this tournament.

"Chris Sole has bowled a couple of fantastic spells in this tournament - it was great to see again today. We knew there were going to be tough games, and I think we can take confidence from these last two wins, but we need to be stronger again against the Netherlands. T

"he guys have been playing a lot of good cricket, and that belief has always been there. Thursday will be another great occasion and another great event. The support from back home has been fantastic, and there's a real good unity in this group."

  5. 'There's lots of positives' - Ervinepublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 4 July 2023

SCOTLAND BEAT ZIMBABWE BY 31 RUNS

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine on Sky Sports:

"We did well to restrict them to 230. Unfortunately that opening spell from Chris Sole put us on the back foot, and it was extremely tough to come back from that position.

"At the end of the day, we fell short. Everybody's really gutted. It would have been nice to put those demons from 2018 to bed, but unfortunately we didn't. It's a moment we'll live with for a long time.

"I'm proud of the way we played our cricket, and there's a lot of positives we can take from this tournament. We really appreciate the crowds coming to support us, and hopefully that will continue."

  6. 'Bowl as quick as you can'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 4 July 2023

    Scotland 234-8 v Zimbabwe 203

Chris Sole has rightly been named as Player of the Match for his lightning spell of bowling that ripped the heart out of Zimbabwe's top order.

He was bowling upwards of 90mph and finished with figures of 3-33 from his seven overs.

"Best bit of advice I've ever been given is to bowl as quick as you can," he said on Sky Sports. "Luckily it went in the right direction today.

"We knew that if we got off to a good start, then we'd be right amongst it, and we did. We've got a very important game to go, and a great atmosphere makes it very fun to play cricket on a stage like this."

    I thought he'd hit it.

    Zimbabwe 198-9 (target 235)

Safyaan Sharif to continue from the other end.

He bowled a yorker to dismiss Mark Wood when Scotland beat England in Edinburgh in 2019.

Will he be the main again here? He needs one wicket for 100 in ODIs - this would be an incredible time to do it...

    Zimbabwe 197-9 (target 235)

    GONE THIS TIME!!

Ryan Burl goes to the slog-sweep again, but gets nowhere near the middle of the bat, and Brandon McMullen runs back to take an excellent catch over his shoulder.

Burl goes for a magnificent 83, and surely Zimbabwe's hopes go with him.

  19. Postpublished at 37 overs

    Zimbabwe 182-8 (target 235)

Chatara launches onto the front foot and blocks the remainder of Leask's set.

The bowlers will be encouraged having seen that... it's all on Ryan Burl, you would think.

Safyaan Sharif is back on - he was expensive earlier.

  20. wicket

WICKET Ngarava c&b Leask 2published at 36.2 overs

    Zimbabwe 182-8 (target 235)

Michael Leask, so often the man for the big occasion, strikes for Scotland!

Richard Ngarava goes at it with hard hands, and miscues a drive straight back to the bowler. Leask takes the catch cleanly, Ngarava hangs his head, and Scotland move closer.

Tendai Chatara is in at number 10.
