There a horrible start to the Fire innings for Tim David as he dropped the simplest of catches off opener Luke Wells.

Craig Overton soon got his wicket though, removing Joe Clarke for a golden duck.

Let's remind ourselves of how Chris Jordan blasted Brave into contention. His 70 runs came from just 32 deliveries, with Craig Overton contributing just six to a ninth-wicket partnership of 71 that saved the home side's innings.

  7. 'There's trust that someone will stand up'published at 21:29 British Summer Time 4 August 2023

Match Hero Chris Jordan, speaking to Sky Sports: "I tweaked the calf on one of the twos I was trying to run quickly, that is just part and parcel of life, but I'm glad the boys got the job done.

"I just tried to take it as deep as possible. When I came in a run-a-ball would have got us up to about 110 and you hope for some boundaries to get up to 130. We just got on a roll and kept it going.

"It was just about commitment. The wicket wasn't as easy out there, our top five struggled. It was just commitment to going really.

"The crowd here is always amazing. They always show us good support. We just try and entertain them.

"I would definitely have rather been out there. I thought the boys bowled really well. Everyone stood up. Guys are having to perform different roles and, although it's just been two games, there's a lot of trust in the changing room that somebody will step up and get the job done."

A remarkable match - Brave looked like they were going to set a sorry total until Chris Jordan intervened with some dramatic blows at the end of the innings.

They then looked fairly in control as Fire replied, but the visiting side steadily worked themselves into a position where they could have won the game, only to miss out at the death.

It has been a thoroughly enjoyable day. You couldn't see a clear winner until the final ball in both games.

    Willey c Weatherley b Mills 31 (Brave 145-6)

    Brave win it!

A big swing, the ball flies high once more and... into the hands of diving sub Joe Weatherley. He only came onto the field earlier in the set after Alex Davies - himself a sub for Chris Jordan - hurt himself fielding on the boundary.

David Willey gave it everything but he couldn't breach the ropes. He finishes with 31 from 19 balls, eight of them from four consecutive twos in the final set.
