If Welsh Fire are going to enjoy a good season then opener Joe Clarke is likely to be a key figure for them.

The other sides should look to get the ball swinging away because Clarke struggles against that bowling.

The prolific right-hander likes to score in front of square on the leg side - 47% of all his T20/Hundred runs have been scored in this quarter of the pitch.

Getting the ball to swing away from the right-hander does slow his strike down from 135 to 128.

Likewise spinning the ball away from Clarke has picked up 12 wickets, compared to just 6 wickets from balls turning into him, allowing him to hit with the spin to his favoured area.

  2. dropped catch

Wells dropped on 0published at 1 ball

    Oh, that's an absolute dolly!

Dropped short from Craig Overton and Luke Wells charges, trying to loft down the ground. He doesn't get hold of it and the ball should fall easily into the hands of Tim David at mid-off... except he spills it.

Stay awake from the first ball, Tim!

Craig Overton runs his hand through his hair and surveys the field. He'll be opening the bowling for Southern Brave, as he did on Tuesday.

Chris Jordan finished with seven sixes in the end.

Here are the three he hit in three balls off Roelof van der Merwe.

One arguably curious point from Brave's defeat to Trent Rockets was that Chris Jordan was their star bowler, taking 3-18, but five players bowled before he did.

Yes, he's an expert death bowler, but might James Vince introduce him earlier in this match?

    Many thanks, Timothy.

I tell you what though, were in the Welsh Fire camp I'd not be feeling particularly affable if I ran into Chris Jordan.

Having been reduced to 76-8 Southern Brave will be fairly happy to have reached 147-8 off their 100 balls.

Will Chris Jordan steal the show when he bowls now?

Here's the affable Mike Peter to talk you through Welsh Fire's innings.

  8. 'I got on a roll'published at 19:52 British Summer Time 4 August 2023

Southern Brave's Chris Jordan, speaking to Sky Sports: "We wanted to bat the majority of the balls when I came in. We wanted to get to about 110 and then a few boundaries we thought 130 and then I got on a roll and we kept going.

"We just had to go against every bowler. I was picking my areas for certain bowlers and committing to it.

"From our start, for sure we're ready with the score. We'll have to bowl well the wicket is still decent, it just has a little bit of hold."

  9. Brave 147-8published at 100 balls

Chris Jordan finishes Southern Brave's innings with a four straight down the ground. He finishes unbeaten on 70 off 32 balls with seven sixes and three fours.

    Yes is the answer!

More incredible hitting from Chris Jordan as David Willey is biffed through midwicket for a maximum and the next ball mullered over extra cover for another six.

  12. Brave 129-8published at 95 balls

David Willey charged with bowling the final set for Welsh Fire, and Craig Overton nudges a single off his first ball to get Chris Jordan on strike.

    Any more sixes here CJ?

    Biff. Bash. Bosh.

Three consecutive sixes from Chris Jordan off Roelof van der Merwe.

  18. Brave 92-8published at 80 balls

Chris Jordan's counter-attacking knock continues as he heaves Haris Rauf down the ground again for another boundary, albeit just four this time.

That's just panic, there's never a run there. He literally stroked it to David Willey's left hand and Chris Jordan should know that is his strong arm, he's played enough cricket with him for England.
