    Target 161

    Mousley lbw b Mir 5 (Phoenix 64-5)

After two dropped catches, something finally goes Usama Mir's way!

    Target 161

    Smith c Salt b Walter 15 (Phoenix 54-4)

And once again, Usama Mir breathes a sigh of relief!

Smith tries to rub salt into the wound after the dropped catch but instead hits it straight into the hands of... Salt.

He attempts a big shot down the ground but Paul Walter takes the pace off with some canny bowling.

  7. dropped catch

Smith dropped on 15published at 63 balls left

    Phoenix 54-3

    Oh, this is not good.

The first drop from Usama Mir was quite tricky but this is as simple as they come.

Jamie Smith edges to short third, at comfortable height, and it somehow plops out of his hands.

  8. Phoenix 52-3published at 65 balls left

    Target 161

The second of those sixes was an absolute beauty, lofted straight down the ground after an elegant shimmy down the pitch.

An expensive start with the ball from Usama Mir, after his brilliance with the bat at the end of Originals' innings.

  10. 6 runs

Phoenix 38-3published at 70 balls left

  11. Phoenix 24-3published at 75 balls left

    Target 161

One of the country's brightest young talents, Jamie Smith, is in next with a big job to do.

Here's the first of those wickets.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 79 balls left

    Moeen lbw b Gleeson 1 (Phoenix 21-3)

    Wow!

Birmingham Phoenix have lost three wickets for one run!

They're three big wickets too - Will Smeed, Ben Duckett and Moeen Ali.

It's a brilliant bit of bowling from Gleeson, going full and straight and Moeen plays all around it.

  14. Phoenix reviewpublished at 20:21 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    Is it three?!

A fierce yorker from Richard Gleeson traps Moeen Ali on the foot. He's given out lbw, but sends it upstairs for a review.

    This looks close.

  15. Phoenix 21-2published at 80 balls left

    Target 161

Good pace from Josh Little, who has the ball flying through to Jos Buttler behind the stumps.

Liam Livingstone is trying to hit every one out of the park but is unable to get anything away.

A great set of five from Little - the wicket and no runs conceded.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 84 balls left

    Duckett c Overton b Little 10 (Phoenix 21-2)

Back-to-back wickets and it's an almost identical dismissal!

Short from Josh Little, but it sticks in the pitch a bit and Ben Duckett's attempted pull shot plops into the grateful hands of Jamie Overton at mid-wicket.

Not the smartest shot, having just seen Will Smeed depart in the exact same way.

  17. Phoenix 21-1published at 85 balls left

    Target 161

Moeen Ali calmly gets himself off the mark first ball.

Richard Gleeson was pumped after that wicket. A big confidence boost for the Originals.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 87 balls left

    Smeed c Turner b Gleeson 8 (Phoenix 20-1)

Usama Mir breathes a sigh of relief! The drop doesn't prove too costly for the Originals.

Full and straight from Gleeson, and Smeed tries to whip it through mid-wicket but perfectly picks out Ashton Turner instead.

One of Phoenix's power-hitters departs, and is replaced by skipper Moeen Ali, fresh from his Ashes heroics.

  19. dropped catch

Smeed dropped on 6published at 90 balls left

    Phoenix 14-0

    Oh no!

Josh Little responds brilliantly to being hit for six, zipping two past Will Smeed's edge and finally drawing the chance with his fifth ball.

Smeed tries another pull shot, it goes high up into the air and it swirls for an age. Usama Mir tries to get underneath it, tries to take it over his shoulder but spills it, despite an attempted juggle afterwards.

A tough one - the ball was in the air for ages and he was in a very awkward position but it should've been taken.

  20. 6 runs

Phoenix 11-0published at 94 balls left

    That'll do!

Ireland paceman Josh Little drops short and Will Smeed gratefully accepts, heaving it high into the stands.
