That's one game down and what a game it was!

Welsh Fire looked to be down and out with Birmingham Phoenix on the brink of their first win of the season, needing four runs from three balls with nine wickets in hand...

They didn't account for Shabnim Ismail, who bowled Tess Flintoff, had Erin Burns caught and then castled Issy Wong to complete a remarkable win and put the Fire top of the table.

  2. 'That was incredibly stressful!'published at 17:57 British Summer Time 10 August 2023

Welsh Fire captain Tammy Beaumont on Sky Sports: "That was stressful! I'm not going to lie, that was incredibly stressful.

"But I'm really proud of the girls. We were a little bit off with the ball up front and losing Hayley Matthews to injury was massive on a wicket that was turning.

"We fought through at the end, showed a lot of heart and fight and Shabnim Ismail is never far away from a hat-trick ball. I'm glad she finally got over the line with one!"

More from Shabnim Ismail: "This year it is completely different with the team. We just have that firm belief that we want to get through to the semis. But in saying that, we want to take baby steps to get through to the finals.

"I'm enjoying it with the Welsh. This is one of the biggest competitions and I love coming over to the UK and playing cricket."

  5. 'I said, "even if she just leaves me five, I'll happily defend that for you!"'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 10 August 2023

Welsh Fire's Shabnim Ismail, who is named Match Hero: "I'm still getting over that even though I took three wickets in the last over.

"I've taken one [hat-trick] before, my second one today and I'm chuffed to get it over the line for the Welsh today.

"As a bowler, I'm a firm believer in bouncebackability and today I came out and did it. Kudos to the captain for trusting me.

"She asked me if I wanted to bowl the second last five or the last five and I said, 'even if she just leaves me five, I'll happily defend that for you!'

"I just backed myself with yorkers. I've practised a lot with the bowling coach, it didn't come out a lot today but I told Tam [Beaumont], 'I'm backing my yorkers.'"

After 97 balls, Birmingham Phoenix had lost one wicket and needed four runs to win.

Three balls later they were four down and the game was lost.

    How?!

Spare a thought for Amy Jones who had to watch on, unbeaten on 48 from 34 balls, at the non-striker's end.

But that was just brilliant from Shabnim Ismail. Four needed to win and she takes a hat-trick to win the game!

Welsh Fire go top of the table in scarcely believable circumstances.

Incredible finish! Full, top of off from Shabnim Ismail and when Issy Wong misses, she hits.

That is remarkable. Birmingham Phoenix will not know how they haven't won that. I don't know how they haven't won it!

Chance! Amy Jones sends the ball spinning towards backward point but Claire Nicholas misjudges it and doesn't go for the catch.

Then next ball, another false shot from Tess Flintoff - and now an overthrow. Welsh Fire don't need that.

But that does take Flintoff to her half-century. A very good knock.
