Alice Capsey knows this ground well and she knows how to bat here.

She batted with a lot of maturity for someone who is only 18 years old.

Manchester Originals were on top of the game before Capsey and Dane van Niekerk came together.

They took the attack to the bowlers and that would have been a hugely important knock for Van Niekerk personally as well because she has been low on confidence recently.

Hopefully she takes a lot from that innings and she can come back to her best.

    Thanks, Sam.

Which way is this one going? Can defending champions Oval Invincibles get their first win on the board?

  3. Postpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 9 August 2023

It could be an interesting chase at Trent Bridge and it certainly look like being a good 'un at The Oval.

To take you through the Manchester Originals innings it's over to Ffion Wynne.

  4. Superchargers set Rockets 143 to winpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 9 August 2023

Northern Superchargers have something to bowl at thanks to a superb innings from David Wiese.

He punished Alex Hales, who dropped him on 25, to end on 54 not out as the Superchargers posted 142-5.

They were 9-3 at one stage after Luke Wood took three wickets in the first three balls. Will Joe Root play a part with the bat after his two wickets with the ball?

I think it's just below par.

The Oval is a high-scoring ground and they made it really hard for themselves after the way they played in the powerplay, so we'll see Manchester trying to attack that period of the game.

I am looking forward to seeing the match-up between Marizanne Kapp and Laura Wolvaardt.

  6. How's stat?!published at 16:12 British Summer Time 9 August 2023

At the halfway stage, the Oval Invincibles have been given a 59% chance of winning this, according to CricViz's WinViz model. Those runs from Alice Capsey and Dane van Niekerk were crucial.

Manchester Originals dominated the early part and the end, getting themselves back in it after Alice Capsey and Dane van Niekerk did quite a bit of damage in the middle.

They're taking the momentum into the second innings after wrestling some control back with those run outs.

  8. wicket

Griffith run out (Bryce/ Threlkeld) 1 (Invincibles 128-7)

Another run out to end the innings!

After the penultimate ball flicked off the pads for four leg byes, Cordelia Griffith clips the last one fine and tries to get back for two.

It was always ambitious and once the throw was roughly on target, she was run out by a distance. An eventful end to that 100 balls!

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 97 balls

Villiers run out (Ecclestone) 0 (Invincibles 122-6)

Mady Villiers is run out without facing a ball!

The ball is thumped back at Sophie Ecclestone by Marizanne Kapp, the bowler gets something on it and deflects the ball back onto the stumps.

No chance for Villiers to get back and she's gone.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 95 balls

Schofield run out (Dottin/ Wellington) 0 (Invincibles 122-5)

    Excellent fielding.

Paige Schofield tries to get off the mark with a quick single but it's a clean pick up and a pinpoint throw from Deandra Dottin.

Amanda-Jade Wellington collects it and whips off the bails.

Originals will be very glad to see the back of Van Niekerk. She was just starting to go up a gear.

  13. wicket

    Van Niekerk c Ecclestone b Wellington 42 (Invincibles 122-4)

Dane van Niekerk holes out to long on!

The Invincibles skipper goes for another big hit but doesn't get hold of this delivery from Amanda-Jade Wellington and picks out Sophie Ecclestone a couple of yards off the rope.

Brilliant shot, just what the Invincibles need at this stage of the innings.

It sounded so nice off the bat.

Dane van Niekerk is on the charge! She launches Amanda-Jade Wellington over the leg side and that bludgeons the next one down the ground for four!

When it comes to taking wickets, spin is proving to be more successful than pace. Spin has two wickets for the Originals, averaging 29. Pace meanwhile has just one wicket at an average of 53.

  17. Invincibles 112-3published at 90 balls

That one maximum spoils an otherwise excellent set of 10 from Fi Morris - it still only cost 12 and included the wicket of Alice Capsey.

  18. 6 runs

Smashed over long on by Marizanne Kapp!

Marizanne Kapp has been so consistent with her batting over the last few years.

She is so hard to bowl to because she is strong in all areas of the ground.

  20. Invincibles 103-3published at 85 balls

Marizanne Kapp is the new batter for Oval Invincibles. She gets off the mark with a single.

Fi Morris will continue for another five.
