  1. Post update

That's us for today. It's been quite the occasion, what with unexpected rain, a top-order England collapse and then a brilliant recovery.

Take a read of Ffion Wynne's report, and we'll see you at The Oval on Wednesday for the third ODI in this four-match series. That's a 12:30 BST start.

    Have a good evening.

  2. Post update

It wasn't all doom and gloom for New Zealand. Trent Boult blasted through England's top order, while Daryl Mitchell struck 52 from 57 balls.

  3. 'We're disappointed after outstanding start'

New Zealand captain Tom Latham to BBC's Test Match Special: "I think we're disappointed, we started outstanding with Trent Boult back in the mix. From our point of view, we weren't able to build our partnerships or take it deeper.

Tougher in a 34 over game?: "It's hard, it's a unique situation. Setting a score is probably harder than knowing what was needed to do. It was a great innings from Liam Livingstone, credit to him.

Trent Boult's return?: "He's a credit to any team he's in, seeing him running in is great to see.

Settled on World Cup 11 yet?: "There's a bit of water under the bridge but we are getting towards that.

More changes on Wednesday?:We made a couple of changes, I guess it's wicket dependant.

  4. Post update

It was a strong all-round performance from the England bowling attack, as David Willey and Reece Topley taking three wickets apiece.

Surrey bowler Topley was perhaps the pick, picking up figures of 3-27 and dismissing Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra within three balls.

Gus Atkinson took a first ODI wicket, while Moeen Ali's spin accounted for two more New Zealand batters.

  5. 'It's what I've been crying out for'

England all-rounder Liam Livingstone to BBC's Test Match Special: "I think that's what I've been crying out for. I've been looking for one-day cricket to have proper time in the middle. It's weird, I've won the World Cup but probably had the worst year of my career for form and had two bad injuries. It's been a tough couple of months."

Confidence in the side?: "We've got a lot of confidence and depth in our batting line-up. It's something we can use in games like that. It was just getting used to the wicket with Mo and then Sammy and just make sure we didn't go too early. I thought the bowlers were very good and we learnt from what they did. I was pleased with how I've played but the team as well.

Longest batting innings since 2019?: "It's because they don't get chance to see me do anything else. You only get to do what's in front of you, I'm a better player than someone who comes in and just slogs it at the end and hopefully, I can do some more in the summer."

  6. Post update

New Zealand captain Tom Latham at the presentation: "They had a couple of key partnerships towards the back end. You want to keep it deep and with four out you can go harder. Full credit to the way Livi played, it was a fantastic innings.

"You are always looking to improve, our top-order bowling was fantastic.

"It has been about focusing on the job in hand and not looking too far ahead. If we're able to put performances on the board then results will take care of themselves."

  7. Post update

England captain Jos Buttler: "I am delighted. From the position we found ourselves in to post a score was credit to the way we wanted to play. The partnership between Livingstone and Curran was fantastic.

"We needed to find ways to get them off their lengths. It has been the hallmarks of this team to play positively. We're trying to get back into an ODI mindset because guys haven't played it for a while.

"Everyone is pretty clear on the options they have in the team. Today we had good batting depth and it was vital. Livingstone and Curran are well within their rights to be batting higher up the order. We're delighted to level the series.

"Willey and Topley were impressive. We spoke about improving our powerplay bowling from the other day. We were very good throughout the innings with the ball."

  8. Post update

Player of the match Liam Livingstone struck 95 from 78 balls, batting at number seven. Here's some of his best hits.

  9. 'My hard work has paid off'

Player of the match, England's Liam Livingstone at the presentation: "I wouldn't quite say it was a rescue mission. We pride ourselves on depth in our batting and getting out of situations like today. I thought Sammy [Curran] batted really well. We needed that depth today.

"It has been a frustrating year for me. I've had a bit of time off and then had to get back. My adaptability is something I pride myself on. The innings at Cardiff did mytself the world of good.

"I needed one innings. It is frustrating game and sometimes you can overthink it. It is hard to get time in the middle when you've only got 20 minutes of a T20 innings left. Thankfully today my hard work from the last two months has paid off."

  10. Post update

Quite a remarkable turnaround for England, who were 8-3 in the fifth over and 80-5 at the half-way stage of their innings.

An explosive innings from Liam Livingstone in the lower order took England to 226, before their bowlers combined to throttle the New Zealand line-up.

Their win came with over seven overs to spare.

  11. Post update

    James Anderson

England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

It didn't start off that way, there was a few nerves. The recovery from Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone, their partnership and then with Curran took England to what I thought was par. With the ball, England were much better than they were at Cardiff. It was brilliant to see David Willey with the new ball. A much better performance.

  12. England win by 79 runs

Boult c S Curran b Willey (NZ 147 all out)

And that's that! New Zealand last three more balls.

Another big drag into the leg-side from last man Trent Boult and the ball finds Sam Curran at mid-on, who takes a few steps to take the catch at knee height.

    The series is tied 1-1.

  13. Post update

    Jeremy Coney

Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special

Once England got scoreboard pressure developed and got a few wickets, they stopped a few twos that you can get in this ground.

  14. Post update

    James Anderson

England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

I think Willey with the new ball made a difference. Got Allen out and caused Conway problems. Atkinson looked good and it was an all-round better performance.

  15. WICKET

    Southee c Bairstow b Willey 4 (NZ 145-9)

Southee holes out to Bairstow in the deep!

He goes hard at David Willey's delivery, knowing his teams need quick runs. It's a big hoick out to mid-wicket, but Bairstow's there running round to take the catch.

    England are one wicket away.

  16. NZ 144-8

Tim Southee has a four from his second ball, hitting hard through long-on. They'll need plenty more of them.

  17. How's stat?!

    Andy Zaltzman

Cricket statistician on Test Match Special

    Moeen

The first of those two wickets was Moeen Ali's 100th wicket in ODI cricket.

  18. WICKET

    Santner c Bairstow b Moeen 4 (NZ 140-8)

Two in three balls for Moeen Ali.

Mitchell Santner tries to come down the pitch and loft Moeen back down the ground, but there's a little bit of spin for the England off-spinner.

That means it catches Santner's outside edge instead and it just loops to Jonny Bairstow at backward point for a simple catch.

  19. WICKET

    Mitchell c Topley b Moeen 57 (NZ 139-7)

    Six and out!

Mitchell brings up his fifty with a mighty lift over the ropes off long off.

His eyes light up when Moeen delivers an ugly full toss with the following delivery and the New Zealand batter goes for the same shot. The connection isn't clean and the ball flies to Reece Topley, taking the ball above his head at mid-off.

    Big wicket.

  20. NZ 133-6

Five singles from the last over, five singles from this one.

David Willey returns in place of Topley, but New Zealand can't get him away.
