Alice Capsey for me, could be as good as Nat Sciver-Brunt. She hits it as well as her. For 19, she is an incredible cricketer.

  3. 'Sri Lanka is not normally like this'published at 21:55 British Summer Time 31 August 2023

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu speaking to Sky Sports: "Actually, I'm not worried about the team performance, there was positive in the batting and we look forward to playing good cricket in the next two games.

On the conditions: "We tried our best, our bowling line-up struggled to grip the ball in wet conditions or the cold weather, Sri Lanka is not normally like this. We had to try and play these conditions and need to bowl good line and length in the next games.

Hopes for the series: "We have a few youngsters and a few series, the last two series we played really well. Hopefully we can play well in the next two games and the next ODI series as well."

  4. 'I have freedom to do it my way'published at 21:53 British Summer Time 31 August 2023

Player of the match, England's Alice Capsey: "It took a couple of balls to get used to the pace of the pitch then we realised it was skidding on and just tried to hit the pockets as hard as possible.

"The messaging from Jon Lewis and Heather Knight has been pretty clear about how I go about my game.

"They've given me the freedom to do it my way and put pressure on the bowlers form ball one, really.

"I quite like that it is series to series, you can focus on one then reset and go on to the next. It's a nice transition back into the England team.

"Batting is my number one but I want to push my bowling on and become that full all-rounder, lots of what needs to go into it but whenever I get an opportunity to bowl, I try to take it."

A brave effort from Sri Lanka. They will take heart that the runs came from other batters as well as Athapaththu.

A game largely overshadowed by the weather, but England do win by 12 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. Sri Lanka finish on 55-3, chasing 68.

An impressive display from Alice Capsey, runs for Danni Wyatt too and a debut wicket for Mahika Gaur.

De Silva run out (Knight) 18 (SL 55-3)

It's out! A final ball run-out as the impressive De Silva is run out by England captain Heather Knight as she scurried back to try and make her ground.

  9. Umpire reviewpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 31 August 2023

England have won this game but we are just checking for a potential run out off that final ball with Sri Lanka trying to scamper a late run.

  10. SL 54-2published at 5.5 overs

De Silva 18, Gunaratne 17 (DLS target 68)

After a wide from Kate Cross, Gunarate hits it down to third for three more runs.

  11. SL 50-2published at 5.4 overs

De Silva 18, Gunaratne 14 (DLS target 68)

Just a single this time for De Silva and barring some very poor bowling from Kate Cross, this game is England's.

    It's still mathematically alive...

  13. SL 50-2published at 5.3 overs

De Silva 17, Gunaratne 14 (DLS target 68)

Three straight fours from De Sliva.

Cross needs to find a response as De Silva is batting very destructively.

Sri Lanka need 18 runs off three deliveries to win.

  14. SL 46-2published at 5.2 overs

De Silva 13, Gunaratne 14 (DLS target 68)

    Next ball, another boundary!

Sri Lanka are giving this a good go. De Silva smashes Cross' second ball of the over for four.

  15. SL 42-2published at 5.1 overs

De Silva 9, Gunaratne 14 (DLS target 68)

A pleasing start to the over for Sri Lanka, not a six but it is a four from De Silva down the legside off cross.

  16. SL 38-2published at 5 overs

De Silva 5, Gunaratne 14 (DLS target 68)

We officially have a game. One over left and Sri Lanka need five sixes off the last six balls to win this.

Any rain now and England will win immediately.
