  1. NZ 234-1published at 33 overs

    Target 283

Just stop, they're already dead. Sam Curran back, trying a loopy slower ball. Ravindra belts it back, straight of mid-off, for four.

    Scrumptious! What a fantastic word.

Right from the beginning, Rachin Ravindra struck the ball so cleanly. And he's scoring at a strike rate of 120 plus but he's barely taken a risk throughout the innings.

Some of the straight drives that he has played were scrumptious.

  4. NZ 226-1published at 32 overs

I dunno, I think we're already in mauling territory.

If it keeps going at this rate, it'll be an absolute mauling.

This will go down as one of the greatest World Cup partnerships.

It's a group match, so it's very different gravy from their last outing in the 2019 final, but it's a statement.

  7. NZ 226-1published at 32 overs

    Target 283

I really hope we don't spend the whole World Cup talking about dew.

I’m hopeful that this is just a bad performance and isn’t a sign it’s going to be a win the toss win the match World Cup like the T20 a few years back.

  9. NZ 222-1published at 31 overs

    Need 61 to win

The consolation for England is they can barely get any worse. The bad news is the NRR will take a hammering. Not since Pakistan in 1992 has a team lost their first World Cup match and gone on to lift the trophy.

It’s 03:30 in NZ but it’s nice to see the boys starting well like always. Hopefully we won’t get ripped off in the final this time!

    NZ 214-1

What a story this is. A maiden ODI hundred for Rachin Ravindra. Up at number three, from just 82 balls. Incredible knock, one that is dishing out a complete hammering to England. What a way to start a World Cup.

  12. NZ 213-1published at 30.3 overs

    Target 283

Cheers, Sam. This has been awful from England. Ravindra is on 99...

  13. 200 runs

    NZ 211-1published at 30 overs

    Target 283

The two New Zealand left-handers meet in the middle of the pitch again to punch gloves as the 200 partnership comes up.

What a stand it has been. They'll want to see it through to the end now.

Speaking of which, it is time for me to hand over to Stephan Shemilt, who will be taking you through to the conclusion of this one - foregone or otherwise.

The dew is a thing to keep an eye on. England have had a bad day, there's no doubt. But there has been a contrast in conditions from day to night.

  16. NZ 209-1published at 29 overs

    Target 283

Very good over from Liam Livingstone, his first of the match. Just a single from it.

It would have been at least one more but the all-rounder makes a superb diving stop off his own bowling to cut off a drive from Rachin Ravindra.

Devon Conway has reached his century and the Kiwi left-hander has been magnificent. Here is one of his two sixes, to go with 14 fours...

  18. NZ 208-1published at 28 overs

    Target 283

After that boundary first up, it's a steady enough over from Moeen Ali.

Nothing close to resembling a chance or glimmer of hope for a wicket, of course, but you can't have everything.

It's been a mauling, hasn't it? Everything has gone New Zealand's way since they won the toss.

  20. NZ 204-1published at 27.1 overs

    Target 283

Rachin Ravindra is closing in on a century now as he pulls a long hop from Moeen Ali past mid on for four.

    That takes him to 95.
