Being in a 10-team World Cup was a massive tick for the Netherlands. It's now about what they can get out of it.

Are they happy to lose but lose OK? That is very commendable but they've got to keep wondering and asking the hard questions about are they learning?

Are they getting moments but not finding the right answers in those moments. Those key moments are what you learn from.

It's a wonderful learning curve, they have to keep competing.

Here's the winning moment, including a little send off for Paul van Meekeren from Haris Rauf.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam: "The way Hyderabad have supported, we're very happy and the team has enjoyed their hospitality.

"I'm pretty satisfied. All credit to the bowlers, they started well and then we were able to take wickets in the middle and put pressure on them.

"We lost three wickets early but the way Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel started gave us momentum.

"The century partnership then put pressure on the Netherlands. I liked the way Saud built his innings, he's improved a lot."

On the fast bowlers: "Our bowlers are bowling very well. We stuck to our plans in the first 10 overs, then Haris came on and bowled very quickly."

An all-rounder is worth gold. A guy who can bat in the top six, bowl 10 overs, maybe open the bowling if you want or come on first change.

We've seen Ben Stokes, Shane Watson in his time but these guys don't come along too often.

Bas de Leede is to the Netherlands what those players are. He completes them.

Now that he's playing county cricket and is also on the world stage, what I think you're going to see is the emergence of a very talented young cricketer that everyone around the world is going to want to have a piece of.

He could be very, very special.

De Leede then also batted really well for 67, playing some glorious strokes.

The 23-year-old just lacked support from the rest of the Netherlands batting line-up and the pressure eventually told on him.

As Scott Edwards mentions, Bas de Leede again showed his quality and continued to improve his reputation.

He took 4-62 from his nine overs, but picked up some really important wickets too, including Muhammad Rizwan.

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards: "It is a little bit disappointing. I thought we bowled and fielded really well, but to Pakistan's credit they made a few runs at the end. We felt it was about a par score and at 120-2 we felt we were well and truly in the game."

On Aryan Dutt opening the bowling: "It was instinct. So many of our batters bowl quality spin, alongside our pace bowlers, so there is plenty of options in our team."

On Bas De Leede: "He is a quality cricketer, isn' he? It is all three departments. I thought he bowled exceptionally well and his innings was awesome. We just needed someone to go with him."

On a potential injury for Logan van Beek: "Yeah, he is [a key player]. I haven't spoken to him, no, but he was pretty keen to get out there. We'll assess in the next few days."

Thoughts on the game: "It is probably one that got away. We were in a pretty good position to win that. We know they have quality bowlers but they took a few wickets in the middle and that held us back."

The partnership of 120 between Muhammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel ended up being the difference between the two sides.

Even though Pakistan then lost three more quick wickets, the partnership had given them a solid base to add late-innings run from.

The Netherlands today have made notice to the rest of tournament that they are not just here to make up the numbers, they're here to compete.

They had their moments through the course of this game. They'll be a sense of disappointment in the Netherlands group and a sense of relief in the Pakistan camp.

Pakistan have been challenged, they haven't got it quite right at times but they've found a way to get through and win pretty convincingly in the end.

But I don't think the scorecard reflects the whole game.

It feels quite a long time ago now that Pakistan were reduced to 38-3.

They got away with it today, but would they against a better team than the Netherlands?

It will concern coach Mickey Arthur and captain Babar Azam.

You've got to peak at the right time. There's no point peaking right at the start and then fading away.

But Pakistan had lost their last four matches so it was very important for them to get the win and build that self belief.

Pakistan are always going to be a dangerous team, especially in the subcontinent.

Player of the match Saud Shakeel: "I was very pleased with my performance. I tried to follow my basics and be positive and score runs for the team.

"There were nerves there, especially with just three down, but I was fortunate that I got early boundaries. We spoke about being positive and the pressure would move to the Netherlands and that happened.

"The last two or three months I have been working on my game. I know I am going to bat at five for Pakistan so I've been trying to improve my attacking options and be brave to use them."

Overall, it's been a good performance from Pakistan.

They'll be happy with their win. It's a long tournament and you want to start well.

They've had a couple of scares along the way but it's turned out to be a routine victory in the end.

A good start for Babar Azam's side.

They were far from perfect with bat, or in the field, but a comfortable win to start.

It is one that will give them a healthy net run-rate too of 0.720 too. It sees them slot in behind New Zealand, who thrashed England in the opening game on Thursday.
