Van der Merwe run out (Babar) 4 (Ned 176-8)

Short by a few inches in the end.

It was a good dive from Roelof van der Merwe but it is not enough.

I'm not sure a single would have been on either if Van der Merwe hadn't been sent back there.

It's going to be close, it wasn't the best throw in the world and there was a dive from Roelof van der Merwe.

Has Roelof van der Merwe been run out? I suspect he might have been.

He sets off for a single, forgetting that Logan van Beek is struggling with a leg injury, and has to turn back.

He brings out the full length dive, but is it enough?

Here's how Shaheen Afridi picked up the wicket of Saqib Zulfiqar.

    A lovely piece of bowling.

Roelof van der Merwe is one of those players where there is always something happening whether he's batting, bowling or fielding.

It was almost a duck ramp.

  6. Ned 174-7published at 35 overs

    Need 113 from 90 balls

There's a sign of that timing from Logan van Beek. He plays a gorgeous flick off his pads and the ball races away to the square-leg boundary.

Shaheen Afridi is developing as a middle-over and death bowler and he delivers a brilliant bouncer that has Roelof van der Merwe weaving out of the way. He ends up just sticking his bat in front of his face and guiding it away for a single.

He also ends up flat on his back for good measure.

Logan van Beek is a nice striker of the ball but he's got a lot to do if he's going to make this one close.

  8. Ned 167-7published at 34.2 overs

    Eh?

What's wrong with Logan van Beek?

He's just picked up two but it was a proper hobble for the first and second run. Like he was doing hop, skip and jump in the playground again.

There are plenty of positives to take for the Netherlands.

The game may peter away now but for so long, they went toe to toe with Pakistan and, I dare say, were ahead of them at times.

I would back them to win one, maybe even a couple of games over the next few weeks at this World Cup.

  10. Ned 165-7published at 34 overs

    Need 122 from 96 balls

In case you've lost track in the spate of wickets, Roelof van der Merwe has just been joined by Logan van Beek.

The latter is off the mark with a single.

We gave him the commentator's curse there, we knocked him over for sure.

He played really well and he's another cricketer who is playing more cricket. From the Netherlands, he has come to county cricket and dominated that.

The more he plays, the more he learns about himself and about the game.

The end of a very, very impressive knock from Bas de Leede.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.2 overs

    De Leede b Nawaz 67 (Ned 164-7)

    Bowled him!

Bas de Leede, as he often has in this innings, goes onto the back foot against the spin of Mohammad Nawaz.

De Leede looks to work into the off side but ends up playing the wrong line as the ball straightens and crashes into the stumps.

Game over? Certainly a tough ask from here.

I just think he's an absolute gun. This kid could play in franchise cricket around the world. He could do anything.

Bas de Leede is doing this on the world stage.

  15. Ned 163-6published at 33 overs

    Need 124 off 102 balls

Bas de Leede looks a serious player. He just leans on a straight drive and picks up four. He's up to 67 off 67 balls.

Have a watch of the best shots of his half-century on World Cup debut. There are some beautiful shots in there.

You can't play across the line like that to Shaheen Afridi. He is so good at bowling at the death and he rarely misses that full length.

Another full, fast delivery does the job for Shaheen Afridi. We've seen that so often.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 32.1 overs

    Zulfiqar lbw b Shaheen 10 (Ned 158-6)

    Got him this time!

Shaheen Afridi had an lbw appeal turned down against Saqib Zulfiqar in his last over but this is just out, out and out.

The ball after drinks and Zulfiqar shuffles across his stumps, looking to access the leg side, but misses and the ball cannons into his pad.

    Good bowling from Shaheen.

When the bowlers make the mistake, as a batting team you have got to make sure you capitalise. Zulfiqar did that perfectly.
