  1. SA 219-3published at 38 overs

It's been a day of toil for Josh Hazlewood, who is dripping with sweat, and his task is not getting any easier.

Aiden Markram goes deep into his creases and feasts on a short ball from the Australia seam bowler, biffing it square for the third boundary of the over.

Klaasen is so still and stands so tall at the crease. That's a beautiful shot.

This man is in some serious form.

  3. SA 214-3published at 37.4 overs

South Africa making hay against the seamers, and knocking the spinners around.

Gorgeous cut shot off the back foot from Heinrich Klaasen as he lasers Josh Hazlewood beyond Steve Smith at point for four.

A couple of balls later and Klassen uses his strength to muscle it across the line between long-on and mid-wicket for another four.

South Africa upping the tempo now.

  4. Aus 205-3published at 37 overs

The freewheeling, clean-striking Heinrich Klaasen has joined Aiden Markram at the crease for South Africa.

Markram has looked a million dollars against Australia's seamers - see exhibit A below - but is happy to knock Glenn Maxwell, who has 2-30 from nine overs, into the gaps.

  5. SA 200-3published at 36 overs

Worth reflecting on Quinton de Kock's second consecutive World Cup hundred before we see his strange dismissal, though.

As they used to say on a reality TV show which recently returned to our screens, Quinton here are your best bits...

  6. SA 197-3published at 35 overs

Three South Africa wickets have fallen so far.

We'll have that curious Quinton de Kock dismissal shortly.

In the meantime, here's the first two

That is an extraordinary dismissal. Quinton de Kock got himself in a tangle and that is a huge wicket for Australia.

De Kock just felt the pressure building slightly, especially from Glenn Maxwell.

Not your traditional reverse sweep, he's tried to really flick it over the top and top-edged it onto his chest onto his bat and rolls back onto the stumps.

    That's a huge momentum shift.

    De Kock b Maxwell 109 (SA 197-3)

A quite bizarre dismissal, perhaps explaining why Quinton de Kock had not been confident taking on Glenn Maxwell.

The South Africa left-hander attempts to play a reverse sweep but ends up spinning his body round and deflecting the ball on to his stump off, I think, the back of his bat via his body and gloves.

Another boundary from Markram off Cummins. Another little insult after that catch was shelled.

  11. Aus 196-2published at 34 overs

Aiden Markram has eased himself back into the groove from that record-breaking knock against Sri Lanka in South Africa's opening game.

He dispatches the first ball of Pat Cummins' sixth over through the covers with an efficient drive. Four balls later and we see that nice high elbow as he strikes it crisply beyond mid-off for another boundary.

South Africa will be eyeing up around 380. They know they can. They'll want to make that kind of statement.

    Australia also look really flat.

  13. SA 185-2published at 33 overs

    De Kock 108, Markram 7

Australia continue with spin from one end as Glenn Maxwell replaces Adam Zampa.

Once again South Africa keep their powder dry, content to poke and prod the off-spinner into the gaps.

Here's how Quinton de Kock got to three figures a little while ago...

It has been really good from South Africa. They are keeping it moving nicely and I know they have spoke about not letting the middle overs drift.

I suspect they'll really put their foot down after 32 overs.

A quick bit of liquid refreshment in Lucknow.

Members of the Cummins family, look away now.

  16. SA 180-2published at 32 overs

Australia ditched Alex Carey for Josh Inglis for this match. You wouldn't know it from listening to his Aussie twang but Inglis was born in Leeds. He actually played for Yorkshire's youth teams from 11 to 14.

He's a Coventry City fan, apparently. His English parents enjoyed their holidays to Australia so much they decided to move there permanently when he was 14.

Four runs off that Pat Cummins over.

  17. De Kock not outpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

    UltraEdge shows no bat involved.

A review more in hope than expectation. Pat Cummins did not seem to want to review but agreed to do so.

Signs of Australia cracking up here?

This is a bizarre one. Pat Cummins is already walking back to his mark. He's not remotely confident.

  19. Australia reviewpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 12 October 2023

A curious review for Australia after Quinton de Kock attempts to finely cut Pat Cummins.

    Is there an edge here?

Australia wicketkeeper Josh Inglis was the most interested.

I actually thought Quinton de Kock might be crying there. There was a little glint in the eye.
