I did say I wasn't confident Sri Lanka could defend this total. This type of chase is tailor-made for Smith and Marnus. Well, Smith's gone for nought!

    Smith lbw b Madushanka 0 (Aus 24-2)

    Gone, gone, gone!

Steve Smith for a blob. Dilshan Madushanka is bowling like Wasim Akram here. Two in a over, no runs conceded in 12 balls.

Nipping back, full length, hits Smith on the shin. He thinks about a review, then turns for the pavilion.

    Game on.

"I can understand your disappointment, Dave," says Aaron Finch on the telly.

It was hitting the stumps, Finchy. He doesn't get a pass just because you used to open the batting together.

  5. Aus 24-1published at 3.3 overs

Steve Smith is the new man, tested by Madushanka, who has now bowled nine dots in a row.

  6. wicket

    Warner lbw b Madushanka 11 (Aus 24-1)

    Gone! Clipping leg!

David Warner can't believe it. He shouts something unprintable, whacks the ground with his bat and storms off shaking his head. Is he upset with the decision, or the awful bounce of that delivery from Dilshan Madushanka? Either way, it says out in the book, Davey.

Didn't get up at all. It got to David Warner a lot quicker. I think if there's a question it's on height.

I think a lot of these English fans need to worry about losing to Afghanistan than bad mouthing Australia, just sayin’.

    Target 210

If you're keeping up, we've had 24 runs in 12 balls from one end and none from six from the other.

Width on offer and that's what allows Mitchell Marsh to play that. Lahiru Kumara took an age to get down to that.

    Target 210

A change already. Kumara off, spin of Maheesh Theekshana on. Warner has changed his bat. Presumably the one that hit a six in the last over isn't hitting it far enough. Lovely timing from Marsh, a back-foot punch for four. And another. Runs flowing.

A lesson in contrast, Kumara gets punted for 15 from his over and then Madushanka bowls a maiden at the other end.

    Target 210

Even if Australia want to get on with it, it's tough against left-armer Dilshan Madushanka. This is a good set against Marsh, a maiden. The last ball jags away. Marsh does well not to follow it.

If I were writing names on a team sheet then Madushanka would be first on there. A left-armer who gets onto you a bit quicker.

I just wonder if Australia have decided that they need to chase this target quickly. NRR and all that...

That is enormous, David Warner! He just got such good contact on it, it sails over the boundary.

  19. 6 runs

    Aus 15-0published at 1 overs

This is an interesting situation for Marsh, who might be under pressure when Travis Head is fit again. Head is apparently on his way to India after suffering a hand injury. Warner, meanwhile, means business. He gets under a sweep that goes miles off a top edge for six over long leg.

Just through the line, aerial. The score on the board means Australia know they can play their own game, not worrying about the run-rate. Straight away Marsh is clear in what he wants to do.
