The resurgence was led by David Warner's brilliance in the field and Glenn Maxwell with the ball, and with his energy.

It allowed Australia to fight back and disrupt Sri Lanka's start, which was a brilliant stand between Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka.

Sri Lanka were 125-0. They lost all 10 wickets for just 84 runs.

Australia had their tails up from the moment they took that first wicket because they were not at the races before then.

They should definitely be fancying this chase now.

Asalanka c Labuschagne b Maxwell 25 (SL 209 all out)

That's that. Super fightback by Australia, awful collapse by Sri Lanka.

Charith Asalanka tries to take Glenn Maxwell down the ground, but finds Marnus Labuschagne at long-on. It's a good catch, considering the swirling wind.

Australia will need 210 to get their World Cup campaign up and running.

  5. SL 207-9published at 43 overs

Rightly or wrongly, the action continues. It might be best for everyone if this innings is wrapped up quickly, then hope for the wind to abate during the interval.

It is quite scary. You can see people rushing out of their seats and trying to get to the exit. The wind is picking up and blowing things everywhere.

    It doesn't look safe.

  7. SL 207-9published at 42.4 overs

It looks like a banner or two has come off the very top of the stand. Not heavy, but not ideal. Spectators in the front rows are all heading towards the back of the seating areas.

The roof is literally coming off! This is getting quite dangerous now.

There is debris all over the ground.

  9. SL 207-9published at 42.4 overs

Worrying. The high wind has just blown something off the stand. Everything has stopped for a moment.

Shepherding the tail is a very skilful task for a top order batter. I'm not sure what Asalanka's thinking is, because he is turning down some singles but taking others and exposing Madushanka.

  11. SL 207-9published at 42.3 overs

This is interesting. Asalanka wasn't keen on taking singles, then changes his mind, exposing Madushanka...

  12. SL 205-9published at 42 overs

Australia are behind, so they ask Glenn Maxwell to sprint through the 42nd over, which he does in the blink of an eye. Just a single from it, meaning Asalanka has the strike to face Starc in the next over.

You do not want to be a number 11 batter facing Mitchell Starc at the best of times, let alone when there's a dust storm and you can't see.

  15. SL 204-9published at 41 overs

Dilshan Madushanka arrives at number 11 just as a dust storm whirs around Lucknow. Not really what you need when you're facing Mitchell Starc.

Full, straight and hitting leg stump. It is classic Mitchell Starc, the toe-crusher.

That is too good for a number 10 and in fairness, deliveries like that have been too good for many top order batters for years now.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40.5 overs

    Kumara b Starc 4 (SL 204-9)

    There is the ninth!

Play that, if you can. In fairness, a Mitchell Starc toe-crusher has done for many batter players than Lahiru Kumara. Think Ben Stokes at Lord's four years ago.

Bit of in-swing to the left-hander. Stumps everywhere.

    Goodnight Vienna.

  18. SL 204-8published at 40.3 overs

Thank you, Michael. This has been a disappointingly good fightback from Australia, hasn't it? Every little helps for Sri Lanka. New man Kumara inside edges Starc past his stumps for four. Could so easily have been the ninth wicket.

  19. SL 199-8published at 40 overs

New batter Lahiru Kumara plays out four dots to close the over out.

Can Charith Asalanka drive Sri Lanka up to a vaguely defendable total? Or will Australia rapidly wrap this up?

Here's Stephan Shemilt to find out.

Adam Zampa desperately needed this performance. He really struggled against India and South Africa with the dew.
