  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 34 overs

    Maxwell c Babar b Shaheen 0 (Aus 259-2)

Ludicrous, in every sense. The situation, the shot, the catch.

From being flogged, Pakistan have two in two. Glenn Maxwell plays an awful swipe, baseball-style, at his first ball. Completely loses his shape. It skies high to Babar Azam, who takes a simple catch at mid-off, the sort that was put down earlier.

    Cricket is a daft game.

I've very proud to report that the incoming batsman is not Steve Smith, it's not Marnus Labuschagne.

    It's Mr RCB, Glenn Maxwell.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.5 overs

    Marsh c Mir b Shaheen 121 (Aus 259-1)

They've got a wicket! From nowhere! They've caught one!

Mitchell Marsh clips Shaheen Afridi off his toes and is well held by Usama Mir low at short fine leg. Mir, you'll remember, was the man who dropped Warner on 10.

It's barely consolation for Pakistan. Like watching your house burn down in the dead of night and finding a fiver in your dressing gown pocket.

Perhaps we were wrong, you can bring your best bowler back on but the way these two are going, they're going to smash anyone around the park.

  5. 6 runs

    Aus 259-0published at 33.4 overs

Six. Pulled over long leg by Marsh. Babar can't even raise his head.

It might be easier if I tell you when there's a dot ball.

Why employ fielders behind the wicket when all the runs are coming in front of square?

Mitchell Marsh pumps him for six down the ground!

  8. 6 runs

    Aus 251-0published at 33.1 overs

    It doesn't matter who's bowling!

Over long-off for six by Marsh. Imperious shot.

It's like Australia have found the cheat code on Brian Lara Cricket.

Shaheen Afridi is now coming back into the attack. You have to ask why your best bowler and your best bowler on the day has only bowled four overs up to this point.

It's been carnage from ball one. Now he's got to bowl six of the last 17. It's astonishing captaincy from Babar Azam.

  10. Aus 245-0published at 33 overs

If I know Pakistan, they will probably bounce back from this performance and win the whole thing.

David Warner has been put down twice and he is making them pay deluxe.

  12. Aus 245-0published at 32.5 overs

Driven for four. Twice. Australia are going to get a million here. Wheels are off for Pakistan.

Haris Rauf's 21-ball half-century is the fastest World Cup fifty conceded by a bowler.

  14. 6 runs

    Aus 237-0published at 32.3 overs

The players took the chance to have a drink while Shafique had some treatment. First ball back, Usama Mir bowls another pie and is hit to the same corner of the ground by Warner for six.

It was a low catch on offer and it was not taken. It would have been a very good catch but some would have caught it.

Abdullah Shafique was coming in off the boundary but it was catchable. He has damaged his hand trying to take that catch. Nothing is going right for Pakistan.

  17. dropped catch

Warner dropped on 105published at 32.2 overs

    Aus 231-0

    Dropped another!

Tough for Abdullah Shafique, running around the leg side boundary, but very catchable. And it goes fort four.

David Warner was dropped on 10, a completely dolly by Usama Mir, now he gets another life on 105. Shafique might have to go off, too.

That was beautiful. That was a delightful cover drive. Warner just eased it through the off side.

  19. Aus 226-0published at 32 overs

Four more. This time Warner through the off side. For as good as Australia have been, Pakistan have been woeful. A possible overhang from that hammering by India.

This is the criticism of Babar Azam's captaincy. Not much invention, not much ingenuity. You keep one field setting and hope for the best.

He's making a change now but, in the 32nd over, it's too late.
