It's actually quite wonderful. I have never seen anything like this!
This situation is not entirely unprecedented.
Incredibly, all four days of the third Test between Zimbabwe and Pakistan in Faisalabad in December 1998 were lost to fog. It gave Zimbabwe a 1-0 series win.

What is the precedent for this? It's not as if they can take a light reading, the way they usually do when it gets dark.
It is swirling fog so it starts to clear but then comes back down again.

Unless there is a breeze, this will just settle in so this is a tricky situation.
Ind 100-2
Incredible. This is a first for me, I have to admit. The players are going off because of fog.
Hopefully they'll be back out soon but the fog is looking very thick at the moment.

Again, it's a fabulous diving effort but the ball is just like a bar of soap.
Target 274
Four more and it's another misfield in the deep, this time from Trent Boult at fine leg after Shreyas Iyer whips the ball off his hip.
And now we've got another delay. The fog has got much worse and they might have to go off. They're still out there for now but chatting among themselves and with the umpires.

That's unfortunate for Mark Chapman. It is difficult to field because of how damp it is and I suspect the ball has simply slipped through his hands.
This is going to be very difficult for the fielders.
Target 274
Oh dear. Mark Chapman might try to blame that cloud after letting the ball through his legs on the boundary for four.
It was a lovely, well-timed drive from Shreyas Iyer but it should have been two at most.

I've just stuck my head outside and we are quite literally stuck in the middle of a cloud. It's not smoke.
It is very, very damp out there.
Target 274
Back under way and the mist/ fog/ cloud is not affecting the batters just yet. It might be different for the fielders in the deep.
Regardless, Shreyas Iyer is able to tickle a leg-side delivery from Mitchell Santner down to fine leg for four.
The fans could see well enough to cheer it all the way to the rope.

There's no sign of a fire or anything like that but it is very difficult to see what on earth is going on. We're going to have to wait for it to clear because it doesn't look safe.

I can barely see the players. What are they going to do?
Target 274
Out of nowhere, some mist has come over the stadium and it is really affecting the visibility.
After a quick chat between the umpires, it looks like they're going to carry on.

Just when India were under a bit of pressure, those couple of boundaries just edges them back in front.

When Lockie Ferguson gets it right, he is phenomenal.
He's a bit like a Mitchell Starc, who can be expensive, but when it's on the money, it's brilliant.
Target 274
Shreyas Iyer is the new batter for India and he's off the mark in style, driving handsomely through the covers.
It was overpitched from Lockie Ferguson but it still needed to be put away.
Four more! Banged in short this time and Shreyas nails it square on the pull.

Daryl Mitchell did not have to move a muscle. The short ball works for Lockie Ferguson.

That is a huge breakthrough. Shubman Gill can do so much damage and he can do it quickly.
