  1. NZ 9-0published at 2.1 overs

Will Young makes a late effort to try and leave this ball from Jasprit Bumrah but will be glad he didn't succeed.

The ball deflects off the face of the bat and runs away fine for four.

New Zealand have a great record against India. There will be a few nerves in the India camp - they haven't been tested in the tournament so far.

They've also made a big call with going for just five bowlers. If one of them gets a little niggle, particularly given the nature of the outfield here, there will be trouble.

  3. NZ 5-0published at 2 overs

Just one more run from the over as Will Young guides the last ball down to deep third.

Decent start from the India bowlers, both of whom have found a bit of swing early on.

Let's see how long that lasts.

Just a little bit too short and wide from Siraj and Will Young was more than confident to thrash it away.

That'll release the pressure that was building.

  5. NZ 4-0published at 1.2 overs

New Zealand are up and running.

Mohammed Siraj offers a bit of width and Will Young punches a square drive through point for four.

Nice shot to get the Black Caps off the mark.

There has been a lot of talk about the outfield here at Dharamsala and teams are going to be wary of it.

It is still patchy and it looks like the sandy parts have just been spray painted green.

I think we'll still see fielders being quite cautious when they are sliding and diving.

It is a real battle out there for Devon Conway so far.

  8. NZ 0-0published at 1 over

Devon Conway leaves the last ball of the over outside off and that's a maiden to start.

Typically probing stuff with the new ball from Jasprit Bumrah.

India seem to love losing to New Zealand.

It has been 20 years since India beat New Zealand in an ICC World Cup.

I think it'll be a good game but it's not an easy ground to defend runs on so I am a little surprised at Rohit's decision to field. He might have just been swayed by the clouds and thinking he didn't want to face Trent Boult up first!

  10. NZ 0-0published at 0.3 overs

Good start from Jasprit Bumrah, getting Devon Conway to fish at the first ball outside off stump.

He's on the mark for the next two as well with Conway forced to defend. There's a bit of movement through the air and a little off the seam early for Bumrah.

OK, we had to mention it at some point...

"England subjected themselves to the subcontinent sweatbox and watched their World Cup dreams begin to melt away..." is the verdict of Matthew Henry after a humbling defeat for Jos Buttler's side yesterday.

It is very cloudy. It is very different to the conditions that we have had in India so far so I am not surprised by the decision to bowl first because I think we'll see some swing up front.

It wasn't a great day for bowling first yesterday but conditions here are very different today.

It's cloudy, the humidity is lower and there might even be a shower later on.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "We would have had a bowl as well, it looks a really good surface and we know there is a little bit of dew later on but regardless of what you're doing, it's important you do it well first up.

"We've built up a bit of momentum over the last couple of weeks and we're just trying to apply our game plan as best we can and that's been coming off.

"Coming to a new ground, you've got to adapt as quickly as you can."

India captain Rohit Sharma: "We were here training yesterday and we felt there was a bit of dew coming in pretty early.

"It looks like a good pitch, it's not going to change too much so we want to back our strength to chase.

"It's important for us to keep the momentum going and forget what has happened in the past because every game is a new opportunity.

"We know the nature of this tournament, anyone is capable of beating anyone. We need to be at it all the time and make sure you get it right.

"Hardik Pandya is not available for this game, he misses out and so does Shardul Thakur."

Tom Latham calls wrong at the toss and Rohit Sharma has no hesitation in saying that India will bowl first.

He mentions the dew later on as a factor in his decision. Two changes for India with Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami coming into the XI.

    New Zealand are unchanged.

We're approaching the halfway stage of this World Cups and while some teams' hopes are hanging by a thread - thinking of no side in particular - others are motoring towards the semi-finals.

Only two, though, remain unbeaten and that has to change today as hosts India face New Zealand at Dharmasala.

    Someone's 0 has to go...

(Sorry, I've heard a boxing announcer say it before and it only really works if you say 'o' rather than zero...)
