I've had all I can take. I'm off to listen to Gene Pitney. Here's Mike Peter.

All of the England supporters and the England team in the dugout will breathe a sigh of relief.
Eng 89-5
He's hit it! Punch the air and celebrate the difference between 89-6 and 89-5. A tiny, glorious scratch near the shoulder of the bat. But it's Ben Stokes. Anything still possible.

It looked out to me. It gripped and straightened a fraction.

This is a huge moment in the game.
Eng 89-6
I'll say this before the decision comes. I expect it to be marginal. One of those that doesn't get given if a batter is 125 not out.
Eng 89-6
Trying to reverse sweep. Given out on the field.

Stokes reviews almost before the umpire brought his hand down.
You feel this review has to go Stokes and England's way.
Eng 89-6
It's Ben Stokes...

I don’t think a reset of the squad is necessary. I just think we lack all confidence and the players are completely out of form in a uncomfortable environment.

If you can face it, this is how England find themselves in this mess.

It's a dry surface and the odd ball, often the cross-seamers, has bitten into the surface.
Can anyone hire the Long Room?

Travelled thousands of miles with my girlfriend and her brother to watch England vs Afghanistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka in this World Cup - priceless.

There have been some very poor dismissals but they're dismissals of a team lacking confidence and not on top of their game.
I do think there is something in what Joe is saying. This tournament feels like a step too far for a group of players that have been together for a long time. England tried to get the band back together and found they can't quite make the same sweet music as before. Arguably they should have won more since 2015. 2016 T20, 2017 Champions Trophy, 2021 T20. They were the best team at all of them but didn't take the prize.

In all honesty, this was always going to happen. We've had 8 years of amazing one day cricket from a spectacular group of players and won two world cups. A reset of the squad was always going to be needed at some point, and luckily we've got a fine crop of youngsters to do that with, who have all learnt from the best. Here's to the next 8 year cycle.
