Very happy with what Sri Lanka are doing so far. They have England where they want, they've got to step on it.

    It's out.

Liam Livingstone can probably count himself a little unlucky, because it was just shaving the bails, but to the naked eye it looked very, very gone.

I'll be honest, I can't quite believe what I'm seeing here.

Not another? Kumara to Livingstone. Given out leg before. Immediate review. More hope than expectation?

A lot of people will be giving Buttler a good deal of criticism. But he’s under a shed load of pressure, and it shows. Something to be said for being a little kinder to these guys - they’re not trying to lose.

England being rubbish at World Cups gives me a lovely feeling of nostalgia. Let's not forget, 2019 was the outlier, not the norm. I grew up with World Cup disappointment. It's as much a part of my childhood as Grange Hill, Pogs and being played Gene Pitney by my parents.

England need to change gears, they need to target 250 and then they can go again. But you must stop losing wickets. Sri Lanka don't have the team on paper to beat England, they rely on building pressure.

  11. Eng 77-4published at 15 overs

Liam Livingstone is the new man, back in the side today. There's still time for England. There's still Ben Stokes. There is still a target for Sri Lanka to chase.

But, at the minute, any sort of turnaround feels a long way away.

It really could be Spoons' Revenge.

It wasn't there for the drive, it was there for the square cut. Buttler's feet not moving as he would have liked.

It's going horribly wrong for England. Pitched up, wide, Buttler's gone at it. The keeper isn't going to drop that.

    Buttler c Mendis b Kumara 8 (Eng 77-4)

    Oh, man.

There's no way of dressing this up. It's terrible to watch. Jos Buttler the latest to go, trying to drive new bowler Lahiru Kumara, getting a thick edge for keeper Kusal Mendis to take a fine diving catch.

Re George and Hayley's table plan. It's a lovely idea, but I wouldn't sit Julia, Jules and Jane together. There will be fireworks.

Don't forget, England left out a specialist batter in Harry Brook, who would have been at the crease now. After Buttler, it's the all-rounders.

Senior players, choking. Again. Our world cup hangs by a thread. Everyone's contributing to this pie of a tournament. One slice at a time.

  18. Eng 71-3published at 14 overs

England have scored only 22 runs from the past seven overs, a lean spell that started with the Malan dismissal.

Ben Stokes has looked scratchy in the last few matches. He probably needs time the middle, and that's also what's needed on this pitch based on the last few overs.

  20. Eng 69-3published at 13.3 overs

The only thing I will say is that the ball has nibbled around. It might not be the easiest surface on which to score runs. But England have found three softs ways to get out. Nothing shot from Malan, gifted run out of Root, ugly dismissal of Bairstow. Now it's Jos Buttler. Oh captain, my captain.
