Superb. But what happened to the bats? I would love to see someone striding to the middle with one of them.

I know, I know, you're surprised I'm older than 30, aren't you? It's all down to a very strict moisturising regime.
Simon Wilde, magnificent cricketer writer for the Sunday Times and an incredibly nice man, is saying this is the first time England have ever fielded an entire ODI XI made up of players aged 30 or older. I'm considering coming out of retirement.

There are some lovely features to this ground. Behind the media centre is the ‘sports pavilion’ with some rustic buildings and a grassy area.
There’s also a tribute to Rahul Dravid, who grew up and still lives here.
Fittingly, it’s a commemorative wall for the man nicknamed The Wall…
Joe Root is the new man. He got a World Cup hundred against Sri Lanka in 2015. He's also said he wants to be playing at the next World Cup in 2027.

Welcome back Angelo Matthews. He's been England's tormenter over the years. That delivery went past the splice of the bat, there was a bit of movement as it hit the seam.
Malan c Mendis b Mathews 28 (Eng 45-1)
It's always Angelo Mathews, isn't it? If not with the bat, the ball.
He's halted England's good start, inducing a nothing shot from Dawid Malan. He's neither attacking nor defending, just prodding outside off stump. It's a fine edge, through to keeper-captain Kusal Mendis.

The body language suggests this is definitely out. Dawid Malan looks guilty, couple of curse words as he speaks to his partner. The ball bounced just a little bit more.
Eng 45-0
Gone this time? Sri Lanka are convinced Dawid Malan has fiddled this behind...
Angelo Mathews is on, straight into the squad and into the attack. Going back to earlier on, have a look at this Bairstow non-lbw. Could be a big moment.

Theekshana tried to catch Bairstow on the crease, trying to go back to deliveries that skid on through. Bairstow waited for it, and found the gap.
Sri Lanka have turned to spin early on. Maheesh Theekshana has a bit of mystery about him, flicking the ball out of the front of the hand. He starts short and wide, though, allowing Bairstow a chop through point for four more.

This is a great outfield, it looks electric. It's the only venue where we haven't seen dust skip up on delivery.
Three fours off the over! Malan has pulled, then driven through the covers once more. He's up to 28 off 22 balls.

Any nervousness that England had, which Moeen Ali alluded to, have now been banished. They're putting Sri Lanka under serious pressure.
Having said that, England did lose to Sri Lanka in 2019.
England are purring here. This time it's Malan through the covers of Madushanka. Everyone settle down, it's like 2019 again.

I hope England haven’t made a mistake at the toss again. Last two games they batted second on grounds they should have batted first. Bangalore is a small ground and good for chasing (Remember Kevin O’Brien). And England has three spinners in the XI.

On the flipside of cricketing weddings, I once played with someone who had multiple marriages. One wedding he arranged for Saturday morning so he could play cricket later that day. The next he went on a cricket tour the day after he got married. Thinking about it, these were probably clues as how they would end.
